A former fishing village, the city is nowadays a pleasant and elegant seaside resort, bordered by the Côte de Beauté and the Suzac forest. The port of Meschers-sur-Gironde is one of its most popular places to stroll: with its wide panoramic views of the wooden squares of the tip of Port Maran and the estuary, this traditional port lives to the rhythm of the tides. Perfect for a walk in the setting sun, it also has many restaurants where you can discover the flavours of local cuisine. After strolling around the port to the sound of the gulls and the sea, head for the marshes and Talmont-sur-Gironde from the Canal des deux mers: this 5 km long itinerary in the heart of the countryside of Michelin is one of its most beautiful discovery trails.

If there is a natural site that makes the reputation of Meschers-sur-Gironde, it is its Regulus caves: unique in their kind, these troglodytic caves dug on the side of limestone cliffs facing the Gironde estuary are real stars in the region. Once known as ringettes, secret hiding places or even shelters, they are now very popular museums, attracting more than 70,000 people each year. Visits, entertainment, treasure hunts, night discoveries, rallies... Everything is planned to satisfy the whole family.

Its idyllic setting makes it very popular with sports enthusiasts who will find a wide range of activities for all tastes, starting with hiking. Not to be missed: the site of Le Fâ, the village of Talmont and the tastings "Chez Mumu" at the Ile d'Oléron Grand Village, and taste a typical beer from the brewery of Brée (still on the island).
