Right next to Bonifacio, in the department of Corse-du-Sud, Figari is the perfect place to land for a perfect holiday in the sun. And speaking of landing, Figari boasts a large airport, making access to its dream beaches and authentic village a breeze. So, ready to embark on a holiday by the sea?

Ah, Figari... Already, its name alone evokes holidays. Figari... it smells of sand, sun cream, aperitifs on the terrace and picnics by the sea! Between the mountains and the sea, from the Omu di Cagna to the Testa Vintilegna, Figari is spread out over nearly 100 square kilometres, with its highest point perched at an altitude of 1366 metres. On this immense territory, Figari is home to more than fifteen hamlets, a dynamic town called Tivarello, and a vast 800-hectare area on its coastal fringe, untouched by construction, a paradise for nature lovers. If the commune is dynamic, it is thanks to agriculture: indeed, Figari is known for the harvest of the cork, but also for its ovine and bovine breeding from which are produced many cheeses, as well as for its vines whose leaves glitter under the sun. The wines of Figari are well known to wine lovers, and were already appreciated in Roman times. An era that left its mark on the village, as its architecture still testifies today; such is the case of the chapel of Saint-Jean-Baptiste de Pruno, dating from the 12th century. If the building seems to have suffered over the years, its splendid Romanesque facade nevertheless testifies to its superb past. It is a listed building, as is the 12th century chapel of San Quilico di Montilati, a real gem of Romanesque architecture, known for being covered with slate and its small size (7.5 metres long) which makes it a unique chapel. In the heart of the bay, the other essential witness to the history of Figari is its Genoese tower. Built for defensive purposes during the 16th century when Corsica was under Genoese rule, it is a fantastic lookout point over the sea, offering walkers incredible panoramic views of the open sea from its promontory.

Hikers? There are several sites to see in Figari, such as the lake of the Talza dam on the Ventilegne stream, and many hiking routes inland, towards Castellu Di Conca, Punta Di Stavulinca, Bruzzi to discover the Piscia di Gally waterfall, Omu di Cagna, the fortified town of Bonifacio, or even opt for walks along the jagged coastline of the commune of Figari. Also, after a good hike, think of taking a gourmet break to taste some local specialties: Corsican sausages, local wines and other cheeses will delight the taste buds of the whole family! Finally, what would a stay in Figari be without a well-deserved swim along its wonderful fine sandy beach? Just like the beaches of Corsica, Figari is a little Eden for water sports activities. You can go sailing, sea kayaking, kitesurfing, windsurfing, funboarding, surfing, or even water skiing and snorkelling on the Pointe de la Testa, as its seabed contains so many treasures to be discovered in crystal clear water.
