Oh, we see you coming: you dream of a quiet holiday! Stays far from the crowd, under the sun, and not far from the sea? But what are you waiting for to pack your bags for Sollacaro? Doesn't the name ring a bell? Get your sunglasses and swimsuits and follow the guide!

The village of Sollacaro is located just a few steps from the wonderful beaches of the Gulf of Propriano. In the department of Corse-du-Sud, this authentic village is carefully guarded, like a secret. It is at 450 meters of altitude, in the heart of the valley of Taravo, that this small charming village blossoms. Watered by numerous streams such as the Favale, the Candoli, the Petrer and the Barcajolo, or by the clear waters of the Taravo river, Sollacaro, although in the heart of the mountains, is definitely a town of water. Caressed by a Mediterranean climate, the town's history began at the end of the Neolithic and the beginning of the Bronze Age, as attested by the remains of arrows and pottery found on the archaeological site of Filitosa located in the town. Located on a hillock overlooking the valley, this historic site also houses a large number of two to three metre high statue-menhirs with human faces, erected there between 1500 and 1300 BC.

Built in the hollow of the hills, hidden from the sea in order to protect itself from pirate invasions between the 8th and 16th centuries, the village of Sollacaro is home to less than 400 souls throughout the year. Spared from mass tourism, Sollacaro is one of those quiet destinations, not very touristy, where holidaymakers in search of rest can enjoy wonderful walks in the heart of preserved valleys. In terms of architectural heritage, the ancient parish of Saint-Albert de Calvese, the church of Saint-Albert, the chapel of Saint-Roch and the ancient chapel of Saint-Laurent are worth discovering. In addition to a marked religious heritage, Sollacaro has a very charming civil heritage, typical of Corsica, with beautiful, stately buildings made of stone, houses of notables, fortified houses, or fountains that give the village a very special cachet.

In addition to its ideal peace and quiet to relax, Sollacaro has another trump card up its sleeve: its proximity to the sea, and more specifically to the Gulf of Propriano. After having walked, cycled or ridden in the scrub, we advise you to go to the beaches of Taravo or Tenutella: huge and bordered with clear sand, these beaches respectively located on the communes of Serra-di-Ferro and Olmeto will offer you a swimming break with a view on the mountains. Diving in the turquoise water, sunbathing, kitesurfing, water-skiing and other water activities will complete this stay in the heart of the coastline of the Island of Beauty.
