Taking its name from the lords who once built a large castle on its lands during the 11th century, Matignon is located in the magnificent department of Côtes-d'Armor. Spread over about fifteen kilometers between the communes of Pléboulle and Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, Matignon is one of those refined Breton towns of which one cannot get enough. Its hamlets with evocative names set the tone for these Costa Rican vacations: Beau Soleil, Bellevue, L'Isle Avard, Le Tertre aux Loups, Ville Samson or La Fontaine Gourrien to name but a few, make up the territory of Matignon. Just on the edge of the English Channel, about 40 kilometers from Saint-Brieuc, Matignon is located on the legendary Emerald Coast, which connects Dinard to Cap Fréhel. If Matignon does not sound like a complete stranger, it is also because the town is linked to the famous residence of the Prime Minister: it is indeed a descendant of the lineage of the lords of Matignon who bought in 1723 the Parisian mansion, before it became the one we know today. This descendant of the Matignon family also became Prince of Monaco through marriage to Louise-Hippolyte Grimaldi, whose descendants are themselves on the throne of the principality today, Prince Albert being Sire of Matignon. So many great names are linked to the town!

Although only the memory of its ancestral castle remains today, Matignon still has a heritage of great interest, which will not fail to delight lovers of beautiful stone. What to see? The 18th century Château de La Chesnaye-Taniot, the 16th century Manoir de La Vigne, the Notre-Dame church with its Art Deco stained glass windows, the 19th century Halles or the chapel of Saint-Germain-de-la-Mer with its rich furniture and Romanesque portal dating from the 12th century.

Matignon is also a destination that is wide open to nature Our advice? Take the time to walk around the Pointe Saint-Efficace, which offers an immense panorama of the Fresnaye bay! Just next door, the Moulin de la Mer in the heart of a wooded valley is a favorite place for hiking: classified as a sensitive natural area, it is crossed by a path that will allow you to discover the richness of the fauna, flora and geology of the area, but also the particular beauty of the ruined mill and the salt meadows. For iodized strolls, nothing better than to walk along the GR34 which runs along the whole coast and which will allow you to find superb beaches where you can (re)settle! Lazing around, swimming, water sports activities and other quiet interludes at the water's edge with a view of the Fort la Latte in the distance will make your vacation in Matignon unforgettable.
