For a holiday made of fabulous cultural discoveries, magnificent historical interludes, to meet what makes the legend and the heritage of the Dordogne, do not wait any more... Direction the village of Domme!

Among the very select list of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", the medieval bastide of Domme seems to be frozen in time. Perched on its cliff overlooking the splendid valley of the Dordogne, this very old village is a must-see for anyone visiting the Périgord, and more particularly the Périgord Noir. Here, what jumps out at the visitor is the authenticity of its characterful buildings, emblematic of the region. The houses are made of old stones with golden tones, the alleys are studded with authentic shops and small restaurants from which escape the delicious perfumes of the Périgord cuisine. Between the bucolic landscapes and the marked architecture, Domme fascinates by its picturesque side, emphasized by the richness of its buildings. Born in the 13th century, this royal bastide with its breathtaking views is worth taking the time to visit; and to begin this visit, there is nothing better than a passage through the pedestrian and commercial Grande Rue, to take the pulse of the town. The stroll then continues along charming tree-lined squares, such as the Place de la Rode, to finally take you to the rue Eugène Leroy, the famous author of Jacquou le Croquant who lived in Domme for many years. And how can you visit Domme without being amazed by its colossal towers? Magnificent and squat, these two stone towers with bosses are located on either side of the Porte des Tours, built on the ramparts that once protected the entrance to the village. If this place is worth a look, it is also for its legend! It is said that one of the two towers was used as a prison by the last Templars of France, who left mysterious graffiti and engravings as a testimony, which you may have the opportunity to discover during this visit. Moreover, the underground of the village shelters an absolutely fantastic treasure: a natural cave with concretions of 450 meters, where stalactites and stalagmites give to the place a fairy-like aspect which will fill with wonder the adults as well as the children.

About ten kilometres south of Sarlat, Domme offers hikers incredible panoramic views from its monumental cliff, which sweeps across the Dordogne valley and the nearby listed villages of La Roque-Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac. Our advice? Climb up to Castelnaud-la-Chapelle to discover a splendid view from its castle, and take the departure of the Voie Verte du Céou which will allow you to discover all the charm of the heritage of the Périgord Noir. Escape game in family, strolls on board of a small train to discover Domme in a different way, but also tasting of wine of the Middle Ages on the place of the Rode, outings in canoe or in kayak on the Dordogne which marks the northern border of the village, visit of the ramparts, of the place of the Hall, of the House of the Governor and of the House of the Batterer of the Currency, discovery of the Door Del Bos, of the Door of the Combe, and mountain bike strolls in direction of the neighbouring bastides will come to complete this stay in Domme.
