It is in the Périgord Noir that the commune of Fleurac is located. In the department of the Dordogne, in the New Aquitaine region, Fleurac is a bit "the place to be" for all history lovers and other fans of old stones. For the legend begins here, on the hillside, at an altitude of 256 metres. Watered by numerous streams, springs and fountains, Fleurac is above all known for sheltering on its land the famous and oh so magnificent Grotte de Rouffignac, also called "Cro de Grandville", the largest in the whole Périgord thanks to more than 8 kilometres of galleries decorated with prehistoric paintings. Inhabited by bears and then by man, it displays under the astonished eyes of visitors more than 250 drawings of animals that you can discover during a ride aboard a small electric train.

In addition to this cave of spectacular beauty, Fleurac is worth a visit for its extraordinary heritage. The town knows how to brilliantly combine a gentle way of life with elegance thanks to its small shady alleys where you can play in complete peace and quiet. The heart of the village is home to the church of Sainte-Marie (also known as Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption), dating from the 12th century; a fortified building, it has a 19th century bell tower-wall, but also a rectangular tower decorated with machicolations. Fleurac is also home to noble buildings, most of which were built between the 16th and 18th centuries, like its many castles. The 16th century Château de Malbec, the 18th century Château du Peuch, the 17th century Château de Souffron, the 16th century Château du Cluzeau and finally the 20th century Château de Fleurac, which housed an automobile museum, will be particularly worth discovering during your stay in Fleurac.

Starting from the town, several hiking trails will invite you to discover the contours of the village (such as the Boucle de Lalande and the Boucle de la Boissonnie), but also the surrounding countryside in the direction of the meanders of the Vézère river which flows south-east of Fleurac. Whether you are on foot, on horseback or by mountain bike, there are many sites that you can easily visit around Fleurac : Rouffignac-Saint-Cernin-de-Reilhac (5 kilometres away), Souillac, the famous Lascaux Caves (20 kilometres away), Sarlat-la-Canéda (32 kilometres away), Périgueux (34 kilometres away), the Fortress of Miremont, not forgetting the Sorcerer's Cave, The Hole of the Dog, the cave of Bara-Bahau, those of Proumeyssac, Maxange, the Hole of the Arc or the cave of Cro-Bique will come to perfect your knowledge on the subject, and to fill the whole family with wonder!
