Need a quiet holiday away from the hustle and bustle? A cultural and natural interlude, where historical and gastronomic discoveries will delight the whole family? Head for the Dordogne, and more precisely the commune of Verteillac.

A hint of history, a zest of tranquillity, and a good dose of nature: this is the recipe for success in Verteillac. Located in the heart of the Périgord, 40 kilometres north-west of Périgueux and 45 kilometres south of Angoulême, this village of character is one of those places where you feel good in an instant. Welcoming, with its small square, its church, its dynamic shops and its lively Saturday market, Verteillac is the gentle way of life par excellence. The village market is the beating heart of local life; you will find everything you need to concoct delicious recipes using products from regional farms, as well as a few dishes that are sure to make you hungry. In the Dordogne, and in the Périgord in particular, it is well known that the gastronomy is generous, tasty, full of surprises and makes the most of local products. But what to eat? On the market stalls as well as in the good little restaurants of the village, the mushroom is king, as well as the truffle, the foie gras, the Bergerac wines, the chestnut liqueurs, the ceps, the walnuts (in pie, yum!) and the strawberries. Sturgeon preparations are popular, as are beers, jams, sweets, cheeses (Cabécou, Trappe d'Echourgnac...) and honeys that will enhance hearty meals with family or friends.

But in Verteillac, there is more to life than just eating, even if it has to be said that you could be quite content with that as there are so many delights to be had! In Verteillac, we walk! So, equipped with good shoes, you too can set off to discover the beauty of the village and its surroundings, thanks to several walking itineraries, or guided tours organised every Thursday morning during the summer period with the Syndicat d'Initiative de Verteillac. What to see? The 19th century Château de la Meyfrenie, listed as a Historic Monument, as well as the 19th century Châteaux de la Grénerie and the 16th and 17th century Château du Breuil. The Parc Sauvage de La Tour-Blanche-Cercles will be perfect for the little ones to marvel at an educational farm, discovering cows, Suffolk sheep, donkeys, goats, hens, rabbits and pigs, but also owls, buzzards and other falcons that inhabit the park's aviary. Stags, hinds, fallow deer, foxes, pheasants and other wild animals will complete your visit. The Castle of Mareuil at 15 kilometers, the cave of Jovelle, that of Ménieux, Périgueux the cultural one or the famous Cave of Lascaux at 1h30 of there, are as many sites as you will have the leisure to discover during your stay in Verteillac.
