Watered by the River Morlaix and Le Dourduff, both of which tirelessly lead onlookers and sailors through the Rade de Morlaix and then its incredible eponymous bay, Morlaix is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations in North Finistère. Cultural, exotic, Morlaix smells the Breton culture and captivates by the richness and variety of its landscapes.

At the very north of the department of Finistère, in the region of Brittany, Morlaix is situated on the coast facing the waters of the English Channel. A clever mix of the Léon on the left, and the Trégor on the right, Morlaix is comfortably installed at the foot of the foothills of the Monts d'Arrée, in the hollow of a magnificent estuary. A City of Art and History, Morlaix is easily visited on foot. To begin with, put on good trainers because here, it climbs! First step for any holidaymaker who arrives in Morlaix: discover Morlaix "from below". A tiered town, Morlaix is dotted with a myriad of lanes that go up and down, each offering incredible panoramas of its precious treasure: its viaduct. A true emblem of the city, the Morlaix railway viaduct is a work of art, perched 58 metres high. Majestically overlooking the heart of the city and its port, it is one of the most beautiful postcards of the city. A stroll along the quays of the port is also a must. Formerly the most important port in the whole region, along with Saint-Malo and Nantes, it is now a quiet place where you can come and stroll around to breathe in the calm and warm atmosphere of this Finisterian city. The Quai du Léon in particular will allow you to discover one of the oldest buildings in the city, the Royal Tobacco Factory. It is also from its quays that you can observe the most beautiful views possible of the viaduct, all misty at dawn, and behind which the sun sometimes sets to offer contemplatives incredible scenes where the sky is coloured pink, orange and purple! From the latter, don't miss out on a visit to the Bay of Morlaix, known to be one of the most beautiful in the whole of Brittany, or a stroll towards the island of the Château du Taureau, an immense fortress in the middle of the sea, and a fascinating stone vessel that has guarded the entrance to the bay since the middle of the 16th century.

Morlaix's other assets are its houses. And its half-timbered houses in particular, which make the reputation of Morlaix throughout the world! There are 152 of them, and you can discover them by walking along the sloping alleys, the old staircases and the terraced gardens which lay out the commune. Embellished with corbels, the half-timbered houses that poetically decorate the pedestrian streets bear witness to the prosperous past of the town, once famous for its corsair activity, its flax trade and its tobacco. The Place Allende, the Place des Otages or the Place des Viarmes will give you a good idea! Some ideas of houses to see? Duchess Anne's house, the Maison Pénanault, and the Maison à Pondalez, a real jewel of the 16th century which impresses by the beauty of its spiral staircase!

After Morlaix on the town side, head for Morlaix on the sea side. Hike along the Corniche Road for incredible panoramas over the bay of Morlaix dotted with islets, and run along the Monts d'Arrée for a break in the colourful moors and heathers which remind you of the most beautiful Irish countryside. Finally, for swimming and water sports, head for Carantec! If you had to choose just one beach, note the one in Tahiti. Soft sand, turquoise water and breathtaking panoramas during the day as well as at sunset will put glitter in the eyes of the whole family.
