Need some fresh air? A change of scenery, nature and sunshine? Then head towards Penmarc'h, a small village of irreducible Bretons located in the south of Finistère.
In the heart of the Bigouden Country and Audierne Bay, Penmarc'h invites you to come and discover its many faces. Undeniably open to the sea, the village has three ports: Saint-Pierre, Kérity's marina and Saint-Guénolé's sardine port. It is therefore quite naturally that Penmarc'h turned to fishing, to become over time one of the most important in Audierne Bay and the 7th largest port in France. Bass, monkfish, crabs, sardines, cod and other langoustines are abundant in the waters of the town: it will also be impossible for you to stay in Penmarc'h without succumbing to the delights of its iodized dishes! In addition to the fish served in all the sauces, don't miss the sweet pancakes, salted cakes, cider from local producers and kouigns, these thick pancakes made in "BZH", absolutely delicious with a little salted butter.
And what would Penmarc'h be without its megaliths? Along the coast or inland, dolmens and menhirs dating back to the Neolithic period dot the Penmarch landscape. Built during the 5th and 3rd centuries BC, they are one of the emblems of the town: from the burial mound of Poulguen to the bishop's menhir, via the alignments of the Madeleine, the lying menhir of Kervedal, the menhir of Toull Gwinn, those of Joy and the menhir of the Virgin, you will discover some of the oldest historical sites in Penmarc'h. As for heritage, the Madeleine Chapel, the Square Tower, the Saint-Nonna Church and its sculpted boats, but also the Notre-Dame-de-la-Joie Chapel, the Manors of Pors-Lambert, Kerbezec and Kerouzy, the remains of the Péniti, the life raft of Papa Poydenot and the semaphore of the Pointe de Penmarc'h are worth a visit. But if it is an essential site renowned among photography enthusiasts, it is the famous Eckmüld Lighthouse: inaugurated in 1897, this lighthouse is one of the 61 Breton lighthouses still in operation. Known for its endless spiral staircases and white painted dome, it is one of the most popular sites in the resort. From its 65 metres high, and after climbing its 307 steps, you can contemplate one of Penmarc'h's most beautiful panoramas, with incomparable views of Audierne Bay.
32: this is the number of kilometres that criss-cross the town. The "Solar Wind Route" linking Penmarc'h to the tip of the Raz and the GR34 trails are the most frequently used routes. The latter will allow you to contemplate impressive panoramic views of everything that makes Penmarc'h an extraordinarily beautiful natural site: from the rocks of Saint-Guénolé to the marshes of Lescors and La Joie, passing through the archipelago of Les Étocs off Kérity and the Rocher des Victimes, you will be amazed!
Finally, on the beach side, Penmarc'h offers its lucky visitors an absolutely magnificent coastline made of 8 kilometres of fine sand, bordered by wonderful turquoise water. Ster, Joie and Pors Carn beaches are among the most beautiful in the resort: all family-friendly, they are also very good spots for water sports. Surfing, swimming, paddle, windsurfing, water walking, fishing, kitesurfing, scuba diving... You will necessarily find the ideal activity to enjoy your holidays in the Breton sun.
