To discover it, leave your car behind and go for a short walk, ideal for taking a closer look at the town's many monuments, which parade through its posh character houses. Bordered by the Rhône, Beaucaire, which was known in the 17th century for its fairs, has preserved from its commercial past an imposing medieval castle (11th century), perched on a hill overlooking the historic centre of the town. Residence of the Counts of Toulouse and the Lords of Beaucaire, it was dismantled in the 17th century by Richelieu; this is why today only the remains of its original construction remain, such as its polygonal tower, its round tower, its curtain walls and its Romanesque chapel. And note that if it is worth the detour, it is also for its archaeology museum, and the breathtaking view over all Beaucaire and the surrounding villages that it offers from its promontory made of pine and cypress gardens. Then go back down to the heart of the town to take a tour of its most beautiful sites. Stroll by the Hôtellerie du Luxembourg, the college of doctrinaire, long courtyards planted with plane trees and fountains, arcade galleries that dot the town centre (Place de la République), to discover superb, richly decorated houses, particularly on the side of the rue Adolphe Méric, which has a splendid fresco of the "Beaucaire's Supper".

At the end of the day, the dyke of La Banquette is a must for any visitor passing through Beaucaire. If it is a particularly pleasant place to stroll, it is also a privileged place for bullfighting activities such as the abrivado, famous bull releases, the bandido or the enceirro, which always attract many curious people. In addition, from April to October, Camargue races are organised in the city's bullring to satisfy lovers of bullfighting traditions.
