La Roque-sur-Cèze is located in the north of the Gard department, on a rocky peak overlooking the Cèze valley. On the list of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", this green Provençal Eden is surrounded by vineyards and forests. The main asset of La Roque-sur-Cèze? The village is totally pedestrian, ensuring calm and tolerable traffic during the summer period. The heart of the latter, located on this perched hill, is accessible from the Charles Martel Bridge: 155 metres long, this bridge built in the medieval era poetically spans the meandering Cèze river with its twelve arches. After crossing it, you can enter the picturesque and cobbled streets of this medieval village, marked by history as evidenced by the remains of its castle, its Romanesque chapel and its sloping streets dotted with stone houses. Be careful: it climbs, especially if you pass by the rue du "Rompe Cul" which, definitively, bears its name well! But we assure you that the view from the heights of the village is really worth a visit. From the Place des Marronniers to the 19th century laundry room, passing through the very wooded Place de la Mairie, the Foyer (an old institution for young girls that welcomed Francis Ponge, Clara Malraux and Jean Paulhan), the rue de la Magnanerie, the Place Palou and the two towers of the Middle Ages, you will discover everything that makes the history of La Roque-sur-Cèze.

Hikers, both novices and experienced, will be fascinated by the many hiking trails in La Roque-sur-Cèze. In the direction of Pont-Saint-Esprit, Uzès, the Grand Site de l'Aven d'Orgnac (24 kilometres away), the Pont du Gard (38 kilometres away), La Chartreuse-de-Valbonne or even Avignon (46 kilometres away) for the most courageous, you will discover all that makes the charm of Provence. But the municipality has an emblematic site, absolutely magnificent, which will amaze young and old alike: the Sautadet waterfalls. Not far from the medieval bridge, this site, as beautiful as it is dangerous, is really worth a visit but requires a lot of caution from its visitors. On the Cèze river, these giant kettles of tormented water classified as "Natural Zones" are of a breathtaking splendour, making them one of the most appreciated sites for holidaymakers passing through the Gard.

Finally, on holiday in La Roque-sur-Cèze, it is impossible to miss the delights of local cuisine! The Gard and Provence have a good reputation in this area, and La Roque-sur-Cèze is no exception. On the plate side, we will enjoy a good capon from the Cévennes, rice from the Camargue, honey and roasted chestnuts.
