Explore Eauze
A natural destination par excellence, Eauze is located in the heart of the Landes forests of the Gers department. Capital of Armagnac, this charming city of Gascony is a green resort renowned for its climate, its beautiful historical heritage and many cultural events.
Ideally located halfway between Auch and Agen, in the heart of the Gers vineyards and the Grand Armagnac region, Eauze is an attractive, relaxing and inviting little village to discover its local treasures. Bathed in the enchanting scents of its fragrant pine forests, Eauze offers breathtaking views of the high snow-covered peaks of the Pyrenees from its hills. Formerly an ancient capital known as Elusa, the municipality shelters in its basements many jewels and vestiges of its past. "Elusa Capitale Antique" includes three Gallo-Roman archaeological sites that you can visit, alone or during guided outings: the Villa de Séviac, in Montreal-du-Gers, but also the Musée du Trésor and the Domus de Cieutat, in the municipality of Eauze. In addition to visiting these sites, note that you will also be able to participate in workshops to introduce you to archaeology, an activity that will delight both young and old. As you walk through the village, you will come across a few half-timbered houses, such as the Jeanne d'Albert house, but also the remains of the old fortified enclosure destroyed in the 17th century by Richelieu, and an architecture that is still influenced by the medieval era. If there is one major and unavoidable site in Eauze, it is its Saint Luperc cathedral: testifying to the rich past of the town, and former bishopric's seat, this imposing cathedral dominates the heart of the medieval village with its bell tower. Splendid to contemplate from its square, this church built during the 15th century is worth a visit, especially for its large nave and interior decorations. You won't be able to stay in Eauze without a visit to its red brick arenas, which host Landes races, bullfights, concerts and shows every year. Depending on the time of year, the municipality organises many events, from the Christmas market to the flower market, including the winegrowers' festival on the occasion of Saint-Vincent (in January), but also the antique dealers' fair, the Eauze fair, the regional products fair, the "Galop Romain" festival in July and the comics festival in August.
As for activities, if there is one thing to do during your holiday in Eauze, it is to go for a walk to discover the uniqueness of the landscapes of Gers. On foot or by bike, you can follow many itineraries, such as the footpath of the Way of Santiago de Compostela, which passes through Eauze on its section linking Le Puy-en-Velay to Compostela. With family or friends, we recommend you to visit "Hipik Park", a theme park where horses and pony await you for beautiful riverside walks. You will also find inflatables, pedal boats and other water activities to practice during the summer season.
Finally, when it comes to gastronomy, Eauze will conquer the taste buds of many gourmands! Confits, foie gras, duck breast, armagnac, Floc de Gascogne, local cheeses, black Gascon pork, poultry, beef from Gascony, wines... So many typical dishes from the southwest that are absolutely delicious to taste without hesitation.
