Capital of jazz in the heart of the Gers valleys, Marciac is nestled in the heart of the Occitanie region. Known worldwide for its music festival held every summer, Marciac is above all a superb bastide that you will love to visit. Historical, cultural, gourmet and rich in many natural treasures, Marciac is the ideal destination for music lovers looking for a change of scenery.

Founded in 1298 in the heart of Gascony, the magnificent bastide of Marciac has preserved most of its historical heritage over the years. When you arrive in Marciac, you will see from afar its two imposing bell towers that dominate its alleys: the one of the former Augustinian convent, and the one of the church of Notre-Dame de L'Assomption, perched 87 meters high (it is the largest in the region). Funny local curiosity not to be missed in this church: near the nave behind one of the four pillars, a peasant playing the trumpet in a field is carved... Which surely heralded Marciac's melodious and festive future! With its art galleries, artists' studios, exhibitions, magnificent Natural History Museum, Caricature Salon and numerous activities throughout the year in the renowned L'Astrada theatre, Marciac is one of the largest cultural capitals in the Gers department. If there is one event that attracts visitors from all over the world every year, it is its International Jazz Festival, which takes place from the end of July to 15 August: internationally renowned, this festival has welcomed many artists such as Ray Charles, Wynton Marsalis, Bill Coleman, Miles Davis, Joe Cocker, Santana, Melody Gardot, Michel Petucciani and many others.

Renowned for its perfect architecture, Marciac is known for its right-angled streets that will all lead you to its central place, the heart of the village and the nucleus of life of this emblematic bastide in the Occitania region. In a good village typical of the southwest, Marciac also vibrates to the rhythm of its bullfighting events thanks to its arenas: recently restored, they have hosted Landes races every summer since the 1850s.

Outside the city, you will find the Chapel of Our Lady of the Cross, which borders the road to Santiago de Compostela (GR 653), as well as a large lake of 30 hectares: it is here that during the summer, in the middle of wooded valleys of more than 300 hectares, lovers of water sports of all ages meet to fish carp, pedal boats, boat rides, windsurfing, and swimming. A walk around the lake will allow you to discover all the faces of the lake on foot or by bike. If you like hiking, we can only recommend the "Circuit des Champs" (14.3 kilometres), the "Aux Portes de l'Adour" circuit, the "Circuit des Coteaux" (13.7 kilometres), but also the "Circuit des Vignes" from Plaisance, a route that will take you to very beautiful panoramas of the villages of the Plaine de l'Arras and the vineyards of Plaimont. And if you prefer thrill-seeking activities, then why not do a first flight in a paramotor (at Beaumarchés), a little trekking (at Aignan), a hot air balloon flight over Marciac and the Adour Valley, but also sports and whitewater activities like via-ferrata (at Artigues), or rafting and canyoning on the Adour?

Finally, it is impossible to stay in Marciac without enjoying the legendary flavours that this little piece of France has to offer? From foie gras to saffron, not to mention Saint-Mont wines, armagnacs, confits, duck breasts, delicatessen, cassoulet... All these are friendly dishes that will satisfy the taste buds of the most gourmands.
