On the Côte d'Argent, 50 kilometres from Bordeaux, Lacanau offers you a holiday in the open air. Between ocean, lake and forests, you can practice many activities but also discover all the richness of a fabulous cultural and gastronomic heritage.
A mythical resort on the Atlantic coast, Lacanau owes part of its reputation to its fabulous surf spots which host an important world championship event each year. The amateurs of this discipline will thus be able to devote themselves fully to it and the novices will easily find schools to be initiated. But surfing is not the only activity that the resort offers and you can enjoy many other sports: kitesurf, wakeboard, bodyboard, paddle, waveski... If you prefer to enjoy the beach differently, between idleness and swimming, you will necessarily find a quiet spot along the 15 kilometers of fine sand of the Canaulan coast.
In Lacanau, you will have the chance to enjoy water sports in a salty version or in a softer way. The commune has, indeed, an immense lake of 2000 hectares (the Moutchic Lake). Ideal for sailing, you can also discover it by pedal boat, canoe, windsurf, paddle or kayak. Moreover, its beaches, of low gradient and fine sand, are ideal for children. Along many paths, the lake also offers a privileged setting for walking, horse riding or mountain biking. It is notably on the GR8 route which links Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) to Sare (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) and which will allow you to easily reach the Carcans lake or the Arcachon basin.
Lovers of beautiful homes will be able to continue their walk along the Échappée Belle route in Lacanau-Océan. This pedestrian escapade allows you to admire the many villas built at the beginning of the 20th century: Villa Thais, Villa Favorite, Villa Plaisance... If you prefer to discover new activities, go to the Golf du Baganais, the Gyro Cap to try the Segway, test your sense of orientation during a treasure hunt or offer yourself a parachute experience over the ocean. After all its emotions, comfort yourself around a good meal giving pride of place to local specialities : oysters, crayfish, lamprey, foie gras, fluted, Bordeaux wines...

With a 4 year old child, it is difficult to take advantage of the services offered, but we must say that the atmosphere is sporty and festive in spite of COVID. Very nice shopkeepers.

Lac de Lacanau, the beaches (north, central and south) are perfect. The Lake of Hourtin is top also at 30 min. The beach of Carcans is 20 min away, remains free with lots of shops (restaurant and surfing): a superb alternative to Lacanau.
