Contrary to what its name suggests, Petit-Bourg is the largest town in Guadeloupe. Considered as its green lung, this town of 25 000 inhabitants is located in the west of the Petit-Cul-de-Sac-Marin cove, formed in its south by the two islands that constitute Guadeloupe, Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre. From the mountains to the crests of the volcanic massif of Basse-Terre, it is watered by the Grande Rivière à Goyave, La Lézarde, the Moustique River or the Sarcelle River, among many others. Note that the town is really worth a visit. Also, we invite you to get lost in the colorful streets of the town, on foot or by bike, to soak up its warm and welcoming atmosphere! Discover the Place Gertrude, the residential area of Vernou with its numerous Art Deco villas, the Place de la Mairie, the Place Sarrault, but also the church of Sainte-Thérèse de l'Enfant Jésus, or the very pretty church of Notre-Dame de Bon-Port. Built by the architect Ali Tur, it does not fail to attract the eye thanks to its colorful facade easily identifiable! Don't forget to visit the Montebello distillery in the south of the city, known for its agricultural rum, which is open to the public and is a perfect idea for a visit to discover the secrets of rum production!

If hikers will love to go on excursions along the coast or on the heights of Morne Léger, they will also be able to take advantage of itineraries crisscrossing the National Park of Guadeloupe which is full of treasures: the Saut de la Lézarde, the House of the Forest, the marvelous Cascade aux Écrevisses, or a whole bunch of peaks among which "les Mamelles" including the Piton de Pigeon (768 meters) and the Piton de Petit-Bourg (716 meters). Note also that the Route de la Traversée, also called "Route des Mamelles", is the only road to cross Basse-Terre from one side to the other: it culminates just between the two summits, at 584 meters of altitude, and constitutes a magnificent idea of excursion to be made during this stay!

But finally, the reason why one comes and returns to Petit Bourg, it is for the bathing! In the clear waters of the Cascade aux Écrevisses, at the wonderful waterfall of Saut de la Lézarde, or from the magnificent beach of Viard, you will be spoilt for choice!
