Located on the very popular Alsace Wine Route, Eguisheim is one of these small, authentic and charming villages. Traditional, cultural and exotic, this is the perfect place to discover the splendours of the Colmar region.

In the heart of the gentle hills that surround Colmar and its surroundings, Eguisheim is located at an altitude of 210 metres. Ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, Eguisheim cultivates a certain lifestyle that will appeal to epicureans and architecture fans. If there is one certainty, it is that Eguisheim will dazzle you with the beauty of its heritage. When you enter this village, you have the impression that you have landed straight in the land of Hansel and Gretel: with its cobbled streets, its abundant flowers, its charming and tall half-timbered houses, all more colourful than the others, some blue, others yellow, green, orange, pink, violet or red, Eguisheim concentrates in one and the same place everything that you love about Alsace. A small medieval village by size but big by interest, it has many monuments to see during your visit, starting with its castle. The heart of the town, the Château des Comtes d'Eguisheim is an old fortified castle whose construction dates back to 720. Built for the Dukes of Alsace, it is now a place of reception and exhibitions, and is the starting point for many walks through the village. Take the time to stroll along the narrow streets of Eguisheim, in its entirely pedestrian city centre; you will discover the imposing Saint-Léon IX d'Eguisheim chapel, all dressed in red, and surmounted by a bell tower on which are nests of storks. The old sun clock of the Eschau courtyard, the Gothic fountain, the old medieval walls, the communal oven, the old courtyards and the small traditional restaurants are to be added to your "to-do-list" of discoveries. But to make sure you don't miss anything, we recommend that you follow the tourist circuit of the town (signposted and easily identifiable thanks to its 9 enamelled lava panels), which will allow you to go around Eguisheim in an hour.

In the heart of Eguisheim, the village of Husseren-les-Châteaux dominates the whole commune from its three high perched castles. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries, these large pink sandstone dungeons formed a single castle at the time. If the paths to reach them are rather sporty (beware, it climbs), we guarantee you that the panorama seen from above is well worth the detour. To enjoy it to the full, there is nothing better than to sit down and watch the sun set on the Eguisheim plain and Colmar, while the storks fly close to the fields in search of food: a guaranteed sight!

Cradle of the Alsatian vineyard, this little jewel with its shimmering colours is famous for its great wines, Pfersigberg and Eichberg. A key stop on the Alsatian Wine Route, Eguisheim will delight you with its fruity wines, which go perfectly with the finest dishes of local cuisine, from baeckeoffe to flammenkuche, sauerkraut, pretzels, munster and spätzles. Note also that if you like hiking, 8 wine trails (hiking and cycling) will be at your disposal, for a unique experience to discover the vineyard and its history.

Passing through Eguisheim at Christmas? Head for the Christmas market in Colmar (5 kilometres) or Kaysersberg (13 kilometres)! Known as two of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the world, they attract visitors from all over the world every year!
