Just a few kilometres from Germany, the famous Alsatian vineyard and its Wine Route, Mulhouse enjoys a particularly privileged location, at the crossroads of several cultures. Far, far from the idea that we have of it, Mulhouse is a colourful and charming city. A huge open-air museum, Mulhouse is full of sites to discover during your escapade in eastern France. Labelled a City of Art and History since 2008, it shelters a rich and surprising heritage, which will amaze young and old alike with its street-art, which gives it a dynamic and modern feel (go to the Quai des Pêcheurs to admire huge painted walls!). Reflecting its history, Mulhouse houses 18 splendid buildings classified as Historic Monuments, among which you can find the 16th century Town Hall, the Saint-Étienne temple, the magnificent 18th century Loewenfels house, the DMC Refectory, the amazing Municipal Baths, the superb 13th century Saint-Jean chapel, the Devil's Tower and the Cour des Chaînes. Pass through the Rebberg industrial district to the south of the city, discover the Tour de l'Europe, the splendid Théâtre de la Sinne, and take the time to stroll through the Parc Salvador. So you don't miss anything from Mulhouse? Follow the big red nails that dot the streets of the city centre. The main theme of this urban walk, which is very popular with visitors, will guide you for nearly 4 kilometres to discover everything that makes up the history of Mulhouse. The itinerary "in the footsteps of the artist OakOak" is also to be done, as well as that of the old Mulhouse, the old Dornach, the path of the artistic mailboxes and those of the banks of the Ill, which lend themselves perfectly to refreshing walks during the hot summer days.

Mulhouse's main asset? Its museums. Since it is impossible to know where to start, here is something to guide you during your stay. The most essential? The Automobile Museum: a small paradise for all car enthusiasts (but not only!), this splendid museum known for its Schlumpf collection is the largest car museum in the world. The Cité du Train is also worth a visit: Europe's largest railway museum, spread over 50,000 square metres, will amaze young and old alike with its old steam locomotives and century-old trains. Other unmissable? The Mulhouse Zoological and Botanical Park. Renowned as one of the most exceptional zoos in Europe, this park, visited each year by more than 300,000 visitors, is home to more than 1200 animals from all over the world and 3000 varieties of plants. The Ecomuseum of Alsace and its half-timbered houses, the magnificent Museum of Fine Arts, the "Grange à Bécanes", the charming Wallpaper Museum, the Parc du Petit-Prince, the History Museum, the Museum of Printing on Fabrics or the Museum of the Mine and Potash are among the "must-see" of Mulhouse.

Before leaving, stop off at the Mulhouse market: the largest market in northeastern France, it makes the city's heart beat on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays thanks to more than 300 merchants. After shopping, finally succumb to the delights of local gastronomy, unhealthy of course, but so delicious! On the salty side, we would be tempted by a succulent flammenkueche, a baeckeoffe or a good garnished sauerkraut! Braised ham, foie gras, cordon bleu, munster pie, knepfle with mushrooms, queen's bites, fleischkiechle, pretzels, kougelhopf and other cottage cheese pies will satisfy all gourmands!
