A beloved destination for nature lovers, this village between sea and mountains promises breathtaking walks, both along its coastal paths and via its mountain routes.

If there's one thing you'll love doing during your stay in San Nicolao, it's walking through its charming streets. One building is absolutely worth seeing : the superb parish church of San Nicolao. Listed as a historical monument, this baroque building dates from the 18th century. You can admire its bell tower, the highest in Corsica, which contributes to its beautiful reputation. Continue your walk and discover the Genoese Bridge, the old mill of Montachione, the chapels, the ruined hamlets which make up the territory of San Nicolao, without forgetting its ancient Roman aqueduct : dating from Roman times, this ancient jewel is one of the most beautiful sites of the commune.

On the Corniche road, between Santa Maria Poggio and San Nicolao, is one of the most beautiful jewels of the region : in the heart of a wild and beautifully preserved site, the waterfall of Ucelluline ("the bird" in Corsica) is a real spectacle of nature. Its fresh and clear waters are a delight for the eyes, but also for bathers who can dive in for a few refreshing fathoms. Several natural swimming pools will also allow water sports enthusiasts to go canyoning or rafting in the pure waters of the waterfall stream, as well as climbing. If the latter is wonderful by day, by night, it is illuminated to the delight of night walkers. Very appreciated by holidaymakers, the Costa Verde region offers a multitude of varied landscapes to contemplate. In all, more than 280 kilometres of hiking trails criss-cross San Nicolao and its magnificent region, as well as numerous cycling loops.

If Corsica is adored for its many hiking routes, it is equally so for its paradisiac beaches and its fresh waters. San Nicolao is no exception, offering its visitors a magnificent bathing environment in its seaside resort of Moriani. The latter also has one of the largest fine sandy beaches on the whole of the Isle of Beauty. Bordered by a pleasant esplanade, numerous authentic restaurants and a nautical centre, it is one of the most popular in the region. Loved by families for its gentle swimming slope, it is not overcrowded, unlike many beaches in Corsica. It is the ideal place to eat ice cream, play with children, and enjoy the soft water for water activities such as water skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, scuba diving, paddle, towed buoys or water skiing.

Finally a stay in Haute-Corse would not be perfect without an initiation to its flavours ! As we know, Corsican gastronomy is generous, gourmand, rich in taste and full of character. On the salty side, we would advise you to try brocciu, a tasty local cheese to eat raw, in a fritter (we love it !) or in a fiadone (a lemon flan). You will also have to taste the herb tart, a delicious veal with olives, but also the wide range of traditional Corsican charcuterie such as coppa, lonzu, prisuttu and figatellu. Many salty recipes are also made from fresh goat cheese, wild boar, fish such as St. Pierre and sea bream (for aziminu in particular, a kind of local bouillabaisse). For dessert, honey is the pride of the Isle of Beauty, just like chestnuts, especially used in flour to concoct tasty cakes and pancakes that will delight sweet bills.
