Chamonix is a name that makes you dream. This tourist town of Haute-Savoie is internationally known for its ski area and its practice of mountaineering. Because it is in Chamonix that is the famous Mont Blanc, highest summit of the Alps. Its territory extends over several villages and hamlets which each have their own atmosphere.

Chamonix has not become the cosmopolitan station it is today in one day. Its tourist development goes back many centuries. And it is the English who are at the origin ! In 1741, William Windham and Richard Pococke discovered the village, at the time a little mountain village without pretension. What immediately attracts their attention is the beauty of immobile and immense nature, and in particular the glacier called the Mer de Glace. Back home, they tell their discovery to local newspapers and their story spreads like wildfire. As a result, many visitors from all over Europe flock to the hamlets of Chamonix. Over the centuries, the commune grew at an unimaginable speed and did everything to satisfy its new tourists : residences, railways, roads, development of winter sports and mountaineering... In 1924, Chamonix hosts the very first edition Of the Olympic Winter Games, proof that the infrastructure of the station was already among the best at that time.

Argentière is one of the villages that includes the municipality. Perched at 1250 meters above sea level north of Chamonix, its traditional architecture and its historical heritage give it an authentic and warm atmosphere. Argentière is a charming baroque church, a huge glacier that overlooks the village and many outdoor activities that delight young and old, from skiing to hiking.

The peculiarity of Chamonix is that it does not contain a single domain but several ski areas scattered on each of its resort villages. But do not panic ! Unique packages allow you to navigate from one domain to another as you please. In Argentière, you ski on the estate of Grands Montets. That is to say, seventeen varied tracks as well as a large off-piste area. Skiing under the glacier of Argentière is an unforgettable experience. And the beauty of Grands Montets accompanies you during your descents, you will not know where to head ! Exceptional panoramas unveil at the top of the slopes.

During the summer, let yourself be tempted by the verdant nature of Haute-Savoie. More than 300 kilometers of marked trails extend over the Chamonix valley. Hiker in grass or seasoned: no matter, itineraries exist for all levels. In Argentière, take your first steps on the Balade au Chapeau. This accessible itinerary leads you to a remarkable view of the Mer de Glace. And to travel more complex routes, do not hesitate to call on the mountain guides, the experts of the region.

The restaurants of L'Argentière are a real treat, the small shopkeepers sell their speciality and welcome us with a smile, a welcome at the tourist office with mulled wine and, super important, the public transport available (free bus or train).
