In the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Massif des Bauges, Faverges is ideally located about twenty kilometres from the famous Annecy. Very old, Faverges has its roots going back to Gallo-Roman times. Its history is closely linked to that of craftsmanship, as evidenced by its name, which comes from the Latin "faber" meaning "forge". Witness to its commercial development, Faverges has a very beautiful fortified castle, perched on an imposing rocky promontory. During the 19th century, the latter included a silk muslin factory, as well as a weaving and cotton factory. At its foot, cutleries, blacksmiths, paper mills, tanners and leather makers had once made their home. This castle, once inhabited by King Henry IV, is now a large reception area in the shade of its monumental 13th century keep: you can visit it, as well as its beautiful Butterfly Museum. Note that from its 145 steps, you can enjoy a magnificent 360° panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and the Venice of the Alps in the distance.

Hiking fans? You are definitely in the right place. For a breath of fresh air, nothing beats taking the direction of the many hiking trails that criss-cross the Parc Naturel Régional des Bauges. The Grotto and the Cascade de Seythenex are two of the highlights of your stay: thanks to numerous paths and footbridges, you will discover this magnificent natural site and its 45-metre high waterfall swollen by the tormented waters of the Saint-Ruph. Fans of thrills can even opt for a flight over the waterfall by zip line, provided their stomachs are well attached! With the whole family, the "Paths to Urban Heritage" will be perfect to do with the youngest ones: these paths will allow you to discover the smallest secrets of Faverges thanks to 8 orientation tables, from its Place Gambette to the Place de la Sorbonne, via the Crêt de Chambellon and the Simon Berger Park.

In winter, don't miss an excursion to La Sambuy, a small family ski resort that looks like a big one. With its immense immaculate spaces, 25 kilometres of ski slopes, numerous activities ranging from sledging to mountain biking, paragliding, hiking and snowshoeing, this resort located less than 10 kilometres from Faverges is definitely not to be missed. In addition, it offers incomparable views of Mont-Blanc and Lake Annecy, which are absolutely magnificent.

Finally, it is impossible to stay in Faverges without taking a detour to the beautiful and legendary Annecy. With its lake with sparkling and soft waters (23°C on average in summer), Annecy offers an ideal setting for a visit: cultural (Palais de l'Isle, Château, Basilique de la Visitation), dynamic, intoxicating and colourful (its flowered canals), it will offer you wonderful landscapes and a wide range of sporting activities for all.
