Need a holiday in the great outdoors, in the heart of unspoilt landscapes, and covered with snow for a large part of the year? Head for the town of Taninges, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

It is in the department of Haute-Savoie that the small village of Taninges is located. Spread out between 609 and 2000 metres above sea level, this authentic and beautifully flowered village invites you to relax in the heart of its small wooden chalets. These chalets also stand side by side with charming, well-appointed residences, built all along the meanders of the river Griffe which waters the village to the south, a river spanned by pretty little stone bridges which give Taninges a crazy cachet, and landscapes worthy of the most charming postcards in the region. Here, there are many sites to visit, such as the Chartreuse de Mélan: a former abbey that was partly destroyed, it has retained three splendid buildings from its original construction, which host concerts and cultural exhibitions throughout the year. Strolling through the village, via the "Parcours d'Art Contemporain" or the "Sentier Art et Nature" (Art and Nature Trail), you will not be able to miss the Heritage House on rue des Arcades, located not far from the Market Square. The "Grande Rue", the 16th century Old Bridge and the fountain give this charming district an undeniable bucolic and quiet note, where visitors enjoy strolling. In addition, there is the Notre-Dame-du-Vieux-Chalet chapel, the fortified houses of Flérier and Buchilles (built in 1475), not forgetting the many chic residences and other manors that have flourished over the centuries in the village to give it a certain elegance. Our advice: don't miss the discovery of the carillon of Taninges! Installed in the church bell tower, this 3-ton carillon with 50 bells impresses as much as it fascinates music lovers and other visitors passing through.

But let's face it: what makes people come (and come back!) to stay in Taninges is its ski resort. Above all a family resort, the Praz de Lys-Sommand resort offers many dream panoramas on the snow-covered mountains. Inviting tirelessly to contemplation, but also to discovery and sports activities, all facing the Mont-Blanc massif. With its 24 ski lifts and 45 kilometres of ski runs for all levels, novices and enthusiasts alike will have a great time! Thanks to its snow-covered forests, the resort looks like a movie set, and its almost magical atmosphere will not fail to seduce young and old alike. Relaxation, charm, sports activities and well-being, without forgetting nature outings thanks to nearly 30 kilometres of ungroomed pedestrian slopes. The Nordic area with its 60 kilometres of marked itineraries, the marvellous descents along the Piste du Lac (de Roy), snowpark sessions, tobogganing, mountain biking in fine weather, paragliding, white water sports, climbing and gourmet tastings, are all activities that will make your stay in Taninges a memorable one!
