Adjacent to the Deux Alpes ski resort, La Grave is a real gem in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes mountains. Its territory, on which there are many preserved natural areas, is partly attached to the Ecrins National Park. A natural paradise, renowned for both mountaineering and off-piste skiing in the valleys of the Meije, La Grave is a dynamic town, lively all year round, and a veritable Eden for sportsmen and women. Spread out between 1135 and 3983 meters of altitude, the village, labeled as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", is home to two ski areas perfect for skiing, snowboarding and thrilling board sports. Perched between 1400 and 3560 metres above sea level, the "Domaine skiable des vallons de la Meige" is renowned throughout the world for its off-piste area which will delight experienced skiers! La Grave is a natural village and does not have a plethora of ski lifts, but we strongly recommend that you take the cable car to the Meige glaciers for an unforgettable discovery of its glaciers! Glaciers perfect for skiing, mountaineering, hiking, and even mountain biking, especially the Glacier de la Girose located at 3200 meters of altitude and which offers from its promontory a breathtaking view of the neighboring mountains, the Râteau, the Meije, the Plateau d'Emparts and the Goléon lake perched at 2438 meters high

Nestled at the foot of the legendary summit of the Meije, a treasure of the Écrins National Park, the village of La Grave is far from the modern resorts full of wooden chalets. Here, the houses are sturdy, old, made of stone and topped with roofs adorned with lauze and slate. The alleys here are called "trabucs", and intertwine to form a small network that winds through the village. These alleys will lead you to the top of the village, to the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption in Romanesque-Lombard style, or to the chapel of the Pénitents Blancs, a viewpoint from which the panoramic views of the Écrins massif and the Romanche river which flows through the valleys are breathtaking. In summer, you can hike in the hamlets of Hières, Ventelon, Terrasses and Chazelet, to discover the other side of the mountain, with its green valleys where herds of cows and sheep graze peacefully amidst the fragrant flowers. Bread festival, tasting of local cheeses and cured meats via the "Route des Savoir-Faire", visit of the Jardin du Lautaret, climbing, rafting, freeride mountain biking, glacier hiking, snowshoeing, ascent of the Grand Pic de la Meije, via ferrata (at Les Fréaux), walks on the GR50 and GR54 in the Parc des Écrins, mountain biking on the Galibier or Lautaret pass, Nordic skiing, excursions to the Lombard pass (3092 meters), to the Lérié lake, to the Black lake or to the Chambon lake are some of the activities you can practice during your winter or summer holidays in La Grave!
