An authentic heritage, a privileged geographical location and an enchanting setting make Esquièze-Sère a particularly popular destination for holidaymakers looking for a quiet stay in the Hautes-Pyrénées department.

It is in the valley of the Gave de Gavarnie that the commune of Esquièze-Sère is situated. Perched at an altitude of 720 metres, its main asset is that it is right at the foot of the ski resorts of Luz-Ardiden, Gèdre-Gavarnie and Barèges Grand Tourmalet. Born from the merger of the villages of Sère-Barèges and Esquièze, this typical commune of the region is above all known for its dynamism: oriented towards sports tourism, it enjoys privileged access to the ski resort of Luz-Ardien. Thanks to its skiable domain spread over more than 60 kilometres, it offers nearly thirty marked runs for all levels of practice, whether you are a novice skier or an experienced rider. A 5 kilometre blue trail is particularly recommended to discover the entire estate in a few hours, with wonderful views of the trees and snow-covered mountains of the Pyrenees. Above all a family resort, this welcoming resort also has a very beautiful Nordic area, but also numerous trails for snowshoe hikers, and areas dedicated to snowboarding, sledging, freeriding and new snow sports.

Esquièze-Sère is also a village full of charm, rich in a splendid heritage that you will have to discover. You will find two churches from the 11th and 17th centuries (the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the church of Saint-Nicolas), but also superb cobbled streets, high residences decorated with ornate doors, carved lintels, stones and engraved portals, giving this small town a remarkable cachet. Former priory of Barège, the Castle of Sainte-Marie dominates from its hilltop the whole village and the surrounding valleys. Built in the 12th century, this building marked by history was besieged and burned, but remains standing today: its two defensive towers, its square keep and its round tower are visible from all over the village. If you are lucky enough to visit it, you will be able to contemplate a magnificent panorama of the valleys of Bastan and the Gave de Pau.

You will have understood it, staying in Esquièze-Sère is the opportunity in winter to enjoy the joys of skiing and snowshoeing, but it is also the ideal place to discover the beauty of the mountains without their thick coat of snow. Mountain biking, hiking, climbing, canyoning and other sports outings will then be on the program of your stay. A stay that would not be perfect without discovering the little delights of the local cuisine: apple crisp, black pork from Bigorre, brioche cake, mutton from Barèges-Gavarnie, confits and local wines will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the local traditions.
