Located in the municipality of Mauguio, the small seaside resort of Carnon, also known as Carnon-Plage, is a popular holiday destination for summer visitors who like to plant their parasols.

Between La-Grande-Motte and Palavas-les-Flots, in the Hérault, the seaside resort of Carnon is one of the most famous in the Languedoc. Made popular during the sea bathing season thanks to the Montpellier bourgeoisie, it now has a very large marina, where more than 800 boats can moor all year round. Quite modern, like its neighbour La Grande-Motte, Carnon still has some old fishing houses, a charming asset of this seaside destination.

Its little something extra? Its coastline. Wedged between the Rhône Canal in Sète, the Etang de l'Or and the Mediterranean, Carnon enjoys an ideal location to enjoy the different facets of its coast. In all, 7 kilometres of fine sandy beaches border the resort, from the port of Carnon to La Grande-Motte. Very popular with families because of their gentle slope, these beaches are all ideal for swimming in peace and quiet. Neighbouring Palavas-les-Flots, the beach of Les Roquilles is absolutely superb: peaceful and far from the hustle and bustle, it has a nautical centre where you can enjoy nautical activities such as sailing, surfing, paddle, catamaran, windsurfing or optimist. The Centre's beach is the most family-friendly: not far from Place Cassan and the city centre, it has games for children (slides, swings...) as well as a club for the youngest. In its extension, Avranche beach and East beach will be perfect for holidaymakers looking for peace and quiet. The beach of Le Petit Travers is well known by surfers and kitesurfers especially, thanks to its popular spot which attracts fans of the discipline every year. Renowned as one of the most beautiful beaches in the resort, it is the ideal place for a picnic at sunset, to see the Gulf of Lions sky tinged with bright colours. Finally, the beach of Les Dunes is the most easterly of Carnon: with its large dune area and small landscaped paths, it is perfect for strolling, far from the concrete and the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It is also bordered by a bicycle path that will allow you to discover the entire coastline of Carnon, an ideal stroll to take with family or friends.

Also take time for a walk on the quays of the marina, particularly quiet in the early morning. Then follow the towpath along the Rhône Canal in Sète, before visiting the Notre-Dame de la Mer church, known for its wooden ceiling in the shape of an overturned boat hull. Finally, for a 100% natural and authentic visit, towards the Étang de l'Or: spread over 11 kilometres between Mauguio-Carnon and La Grande-Motte, this vast shallow lagoon supplied with sea water by the Grau de Carnon is a fishing spot well known by professionals and amateur fishermen alike. Rich in exceptional biodiversity, abundant fauna and flora, this water body is a particularly famous bird watching area, which shelters the largest natural population of water birds in the department.
