The town of Mauguio is located on the shores of the Mediterranean and the Etang de l'Or, just east of Montpellier. In the Hérault department, in the Occitanie region, Mauguio is, with its seaside resort of Carnon, THE perfect destination for family stays. In the vineyard and market gardening plains of the Montpellier periphery, Mauguio spreads out from the Etang de l'Or to the dune belt of Palavas-les-Flots, up to the outskirts of La Grande-Motte. Organized according to a circular plan around its ancient feudal mound, Mauguio is today the 7th largest city in the Hérault, recognized for its ancient heritage which fascinates history and old stone lovers. Crossing the centuries with brilliance and authenticity, this charming town counts on its territory nearly forty archeological sites, which have brought to light the traces of dwellings dating back to more than 4000 years before Jesus-Christ. First medieval city of the Bas-Languedoc, at the doors of the Camargue, the city offers through its maze of lanes a privileged route which will lead you to the discovery of its heritage. What to see? To get your strength back, there's nothing like a little detour to the Carnon market to taste local wines and other local delicacies that are sure to delight young and old alike.

After taking the time to discover Mauguio from the city side, let's go for a visit from the nature side. Our advice? Don't miss the Chemin du Cabanier: all around the Etang d'Or, this 5 kilometer itinerary accessible on foot as well as by bike or horseback will lead you through the abundant nature of Mauguio. Along the Capoulière bay, up to the Salaison huts, you will discover the old fishermen's huts from 3000 years ago, the marshes, the manadiers and their bulls, but also a great variety of birds such as the grey heron, the little egret and the pink flamingo... For a walk with a sweet Camargue air!
