In the heart of vineyards and thick scrubland, the small ancient village of Prades-sur-Vernazobre has everything to please. Its shady alleys are covered with essences of rockrose, lavender, thyme and rosemary, planted with magnificent Aleppo pines, strawberry trees, hundred-year-old holm oaks and chestnut trees, which bring a little freshness to the onlookers on hot summer days. You will also find freshness on the banks of the Vernazobres river which wets the village from one end to the other: here, mulberry trees, olive trees and other local species draw the panorama, for a perfect postcard of the village. Renowned among oenophiles for its production of Pays d'Oc, Pays d'Hérault, Languedoc and Saint-Chinian wines, this gourmet land is also a huge open-air playground for nature lovers. To grasp all its splendour, head for the hiking trail n°39 "Saint-Martin de Dounaro" starting from the town hall square, for a walk of almost 9 kilometres through the abundant nature of this pretty corner of the Hérault. The Orb River which flows a few kilometres away will also be a vast playground for water sports aficionados such as canoeing, kayaking and white-water activities, but also for lovers of river walks, who will be able to enjoy outings that will take them in the direction of Béziers and its famous Canal du Midi.

Béziers precisely, located 25 kilometres from Prades-sur-Vernazobre, is really worth the detour. The second largest city in the Hérault after Montpellier, it is also known as the "oldest city in France" because it was founded by the Greeks in the 7th century BC and has many pleasant green spaces and cultural sites that are a must to discover. Take the time to stroll through its town centre on the banks of the Orb river to discover its Pont-Vieux, its Roman arenas, its Canal du Midi, but also its Saint-Nazaire cathedral and its Penitents chapel. Finally, for holidaymakers who dream of diving into the water, you should know that the beaches of the Mediterranean are only forty minutes away from the town of Prades-sur-Vernazobre.
