In the heart of one of the most beautiful bays in the world, between Mont-Saint-Michel and Saint-Malo, the small town of Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes has many invitations to discover its coastline. Swimming, hiking, cultural and gastronomic discoveries will punctuate this stay in Brittany.

Nestled on the banks of the Marais Blanc, Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes has its origins dating back to the 12th century. Built on shellfish deposits, sand and shell banks created by wind and tides, Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes was adorned with a dike on its dune cordon during the 11th century, separating the sea from the marsh. This dike, called the "Duchess Anne's Dike", will lead you to discover the most beautiful panoramas of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, dotted with marshes, salt meadows and polders, as far as the mouth of the Couesnon, which marks the border between Brittany and Normandy. The EV4 (the coastal cycle route), the Circuit du Marais de Dol, but also the Voie Verte de la Baie du Mont-Saint-Michel will be ideal for discovering the entire Bay and its marshes on foot or by bike, between shaded paths and seaside routes. You can also reach Pointe du Grouin (12 kilometres away) in a few minutes: this rocky spur, a wonderful spot for observing the sea, is of breathtaking beauty. Offering one of the largest and most elegant landscapes in Ille-et-Vilaine, it will offer you in the blink of an eye a viewpoint from Cap Fréhel to the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. A grandiose show at every time of the year, it may allow you, icing on the cake, to observe dolphins swimming off the tip. But if there is one site to see during your holidays in Saint-Benoît-des-Ondes, it is certainly its Belvedere des Ondes: an old 18th century mill facing the bay, this restored monument transformed into a work of art offers an impressive panoramic view of the entire bay from its roof terrace, not to be missed under any circumstances. From this perch, you may also be able to see, three kilometres from the coast, the traditional fisheries that were once used to trap fish from coast to coast, for simple and less expensive fishing. While fishing on foot was the main activity of the village at the time, it is now dependent on tourism, but also on shellfish and mussels.

Do you want to swim? Head for the beaches of Cancale, a nearby seaside resort well known for its delicious oysters. There are 6 beaches in Cancale that are perfect for sunbathing, but also for water sports. According to your desires, you can sail, sea kayak (towards Saint-Malo in particular), catamaran, stand up paddle... We also recommend you to take your visit a little further towards Saint-Malo: with its art galleries, its legendary Malouinières, its forts, its islands and its famous ramparts, Saint-Malo is one of the most famous sites in Brittany. Between a cultural visit and a gourmet tasting (Breton cake, oysters, mussels, crackers, Kouign Amann...) you can also choose to go to sea to discover the Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey or Herm.
