Located in the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, Loches stands out for its architecture and its rich heritage. A cultural, historical and resolutely elegant destination, the Cité Royale de Loches will immerse you in the fascinating world of the famous Loire castles.

Listed as one of the "Most Beautiful Detours of France", Loches, a city of Art and History, invites its visitors to stroll along its streets full of memories and marked by the imprint of a rich past. A medieval city with over 1000 years of history, Loches is made up of intertwined cobbled streets, tufa facades and charming squares where you will love to take the time to contemplate the uniqueness of the city. From the Porte des Cordeliers, take the direction of the rue du château and then the Tour Saint-Antoine which, from the 52 metres high of its belfry, seems to challenge the whole city. The town hall, the Porte Picois, the Chancellery and the wonderful sculptures on its Renaissance façade, but also the Maison du Centaure, the Lansyer Museum, the weekly market and the public garden are also worth seeing during your visit. The public garden is one of the most popular sites in Loches: located on the banks of the Indre river, this bucolic place offers incomparable views of the Royal City. Its beautiful lawns, shrubs and numerous fragrant flowers make it an essential place for a relaxing walk. Pass through the Porte Royale and then climb the rocky spur that dominates the city, on which are located the Collegiate Church of Saint-Ours and the heart of the Cité Royale. The latter is undoubtedly marked by the seal of French history: Anne of Brittany, Agnès Sorel and Joan of Arc have walked its streets, and discovered during their stays the architectural jewels of this medieval military fortress, dominated by the Royal Logis and an imposing 11th century keep. We advise you to visit this dungeon to discover its towers, its dungeons, its impressive stairs and its breathtaking panoramic view of all Loches from its terrace at 44 meters high! Just next door, the Romanesque collegiate church of Saint-Ours is one of the highlights of your stay: dating from the 11th and 12th centuries, it now houses the tomb of Agnes Sorel, favourite of King Charles VII, whose nickname was the "lady of beauty". The building will leave its mark on you with its splendid 1150 portal and its astonishing pyramid-shaped interior architecture: we highly recommend a visit!

Far from the hustle and bustle of the big cities, but close to the Châteaux de la Loire, Loches is the ideal place to settle down and enjoy a good breath of fresh air. Fans of botany and roses in particular will not miss the Garden of the Presbytery of Chédigny, when history aficionados will gladly go to Grand-Pressigny for its Museum of Prehistory. Finally, Chemillé-sur-Indrois and its nautical base, Montrésor and its walking routes, La Guerche and its imposing castle on the banks of the Creuse, but also Azay-le-Rideau, Amboise, Chinon, Valençay, Villandry, Montpoupon and Chenonceau are less than an hour away from Loches.

Is located 30 min from the Zoo of Beauval that you must absolutely see in this region (allow 2 days to fully enjoy the Zoo). Our stay was moreover to visit the zoo with our family (children and grandchildren). Very nice weekend!
