In the department of Isère, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Saint-André-en-Royans is a pearl, a real nugget located in the hollow of wooded valleys. Right on the border with the Drôme, the village is just a few steps away from the Isère, and is watered by the Bourne river in its south, a natural border with the neighboring department. Leaning against the foothills of the Vercors, Saint-André-en-Royans is an open-air history book, which tells from its old stones the fascinating history of the Dauphiné. A village of remarkable charm, it reveals to its visitors beautiful old houses with elegant shapes, stone mansions, warm squares and old porches that give it a lovely picturesque side. If we had to recommend only one site in the village, it would be the village church. The church of Saint-André, as it is called, dates from the 17th century. It is worth a visit for the splendor of its ceilings, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments, painted wood ceilings and coffered, decorated in trompe l'oeil. Its gypsum decorations, its arches and pilasters still testify today to the past wealth of the village. A village that has a good number of captivating residences to discover, such as the Maison de Beaujour, the Maison Forte de Saint-Just-de-Claix from the 13th century, or the Château des Prunier de Saint-André, a large 17th century building around which the village is built. Our advice? Don't miss its square! Inviting you to stroll around, it is full of basins, porches and magnificent arcades, for a perfect postcard of your vacations in Saint-André-de-Royans.

In order not to miss anything of the village, you will be able to take the "Parcours Ludique" perfect to discover with your family, or the hiking itineraries accessible to walkers as well as mountain bikers, like the circuit "Au fil de l'eau" which will lead you along the Tarze stream, the circuit "Maisons-Fortes en Saint-Romans", the itinerary "La Balade du Dauphin" and many others. Horseback riding, visiting the Choranche cave, discovering Romans-sur-Isère (30 kilometers away), Grenoble (40 kilometers away), but also mountain biking, donkey rides or dog sledding, snowkiting, caving, canyoning, trail running, paragliding, skiing and snowshoeing in winter in the resort of Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors (30 kilometers to the east) will complete your stay in Saint-André-en-Royans!

Good plans: the equestrian centre just next door, walks from and around Saint-Julien, swimming in the Bourle, the Sagnes farm for fruit and vegetables. The visit to the Soranches cave is disappointing (too many people, simplistic speeches).
