Located in the heart of the Loire-Atlantique department, just a few kilometres from the sea, Herbignac is the perfect place to settle down for a change of scenery during your stay. The origins of this small village date back to the Neolithic period according to the presence of dolmens and menhirs on its lands, such as the Riholo dolmen and the Arbourg menhirs. Once crossed by Roman roads (such as the Pottery Road, the Salt Road and the Linen Canvas Road), the town has a number of old sites, such as the Ranrouët Mill (17th century), the Cultural Space Well and the Garden Well of the Tourism and Heritage House. The parish enclosure and the Notre-Dame la blanche chapel (to be seen for its magnificent stained glass windows) are added to the list of visits to be made during a visit to Herbignac. But if there is a major site, it is certainly the castle of Ranrouët: built on the edge of Brière during the 13th century, this strategically located castle once commanded the entrance to the Guérande peninsula. Located in a green and enchanting setting, this thick fortress hidden by hundred-year-old oaks can be visited all year round.

The municipality of Herbignac has several itineraries for all levels of walking, which will allow you to discover all the facets of the city and its surroundings. The "Rando des Potiers" (12 kilometres), those of the "Bords de Brière" (7 or 12 kilometres), the Château de Ranrouët (8.5 kilometres), the Bois de l'Épine, the Bois de l'Abeille, the route of the "Cour aux Loups" (12 or 16 kilometres), not to mention the GR 39 and the GR 3, are all ideas for walks that will certainly delight young and old.

But if there are excursions that are undoubtedly worth a visit, it is certainly the loops towards the Guérande peninsula. The elegant and popular seaside resorts of La Turballe, Le Croisic, La Baule, Pornichet, Saint-Nazaire and Batz-sur-Mer are only about twenty kilometres from Herbignac for the most part, offering you a wide choice of routes according to your desires..... But not just that! Renowned for their timeless charm, these seaside resorts stretch over 90 kilometres of splendid coastline, perfect for sailing, family swimming, sunbathing, sailing or even sliding, thanks to numerous water sports centres offering surfing, water skiing, SUP, kitesurfing or diving courses. Fishing enthusiasts and budding sailors will have a great time, as will gourmands who can enjoy the flavours of local cuisine in many restaurants ideally located on the seafront. Brière meat, Bouchot de Pénestin mussels, Croisic shells, salicorne, sea bass in salt crust, omelette of elvers, Saint-Guénolé galette... Not to mention the salt, a real local star, rich in trace elements, which is harvested all year round in the salt marshes of the peninsula.
