Explore Pornichet
Spreading over more than 7 kilometres of coastline, Pornichet is an ideal destination for a pleasant holiday by the sea. Family and elegant destination, located 1 hour from Nantes and only 5 kilometres from the very chic seaside resort of La Baule, Pornichet will surprise you with its dynamism and its wide range of sporting activities, for young and old.
Nestled in the very south of Brittany, between Saint-Nazaire and La Baule-Escoublac, the Brière marshes and the Atlantic Ocean, this ancient small village that once made its living from fishing, agriculture and salt harvesting quickly became a fashionable destination during the rise of sea bathing. Attended by the aristocracy from Paris, Angers and Nantes, the city is modernizing and sees appearing on the seafront and in its streets of sumptuous Belle Epoque villas, recognizable by their unique style, both luxurious and imposing. Guided tours punctuated with anecdotes are organized throughout the year so that visitors can discover these emblematic buildings that make the reputation of the seaside resort of Pornichet. Hikers can also enjoy the 35 kilometres or so of hiking trails that criss-cross the pornichétin shore : on foot, by bike or on horseback, two circuits will allow you to discover every nook and cranny of Pornichet, and to enjoy the calm and beauty of its ocean views as far as the eye can see. We also advise you to take the famous customs path which, from sunrise to sunset, offers to those who tread it magnificent landscapes on the coast and the ocean : thus, from this path, you will be able to discover the beaches, the coves and the reliefs which punctuate the pornichétine coast. Between the beaches of "Bonne Source" and "Sainte-Marguerite", the sunsets are particularly magnificent, just like from the boulevard de la Mer and its famous view over the bay of La Baule-Pornichet. Another excursion, 13 kilometres long, will allow you to appreciate all the singularity of the coast linking Pornichet to Saint-Nazaire, neighbouring seaside resort famous for its port, its beaches and its shipyards.
Responding to the sweet name of "Côte d'Amour", the Pornichet coast is punctuated by three very beautiful beaches. Along the Boulevard des Océanides, the "Plage des Libraires" is the main beach of the resort. It is 2 kilometres long and is very popular with families because of its many children's facilities, beach clubs and inflatable games. The "Plage de la Bonne Source" is surely the most beautiful and the largest beach in Pornichet : appreciated by surfers and skimboarders, it is the ideal place for water sports. So you can sail, optimize, paddle, dinghy, sea kayak, flyfish and wakeboard. More discreet, the beach of "Sainte-Marguerite", nestled behind the Pointe de Congrigoux, is family and welcoming. Bordered by 19th century villas, it also lends itself to water sports as well as long afternoons of idleness and swimming.
For the irrepressible desires of the open sea, why not let yourself be tempted by an excursion by boat or catamaran ? You will thus discover during this excursion the Bay of Baule, Pornichet and its coast, the Pouliguen and its port, Belle-Île, the islands of Noirmoutier or the Gulf of Morbihan... A sea trip which, for sure, will fill small and big sailors with fresh water.
After a round at the Pornichet casino, a round of golf and a few bets at the racecourse, give yourself a relaxing break in one of the resort's two thalassotherapy centres. The ideal opportunity to relax and enjoy a well-deserved break in the middle of relaxing baths, saunas and hammams, where your only mission, if you accept it, will be to admire the sea and the blue horizon...
Do not leave Pornichet without having had a glass of Muscat at the "Bidule", a mythical bar in the seaside resort, and without having visited the market side of the resort : the largest market on the peninsula, you will find there (on Wednesdays and Saturdays) a wide choice of freshly caught fish, langoustines, organic vegetables from local productions, cellarmen and cheese makers who will not fail to make you taste their productions. Finally, a holiday by the sea would not have the same flavour without the famous "mussels and chips" on the water's edge : it is impossible to be disappointed if you walk through the door of the restaurant "La Galerne" or the "Cap Restaurant" !
