In the department of Lot-et-Garonne, Prayssas will know how to delight the amateurs of calm stays with its stones and its history. Between nature and culture, this destination rather unknown to travellers is definitely the perfect place to put down your bags for a little peace and quiet under the sun.

A few steps from Agen and Villeneuve-sur-Lot, the commune of Prayssac is nestled between the Lot and Garonne rivers. In the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, in the Pays de Serres, this bastide built on a circular plan around its church has its origins well before the construction of most bastides in the region. As the beating heart of the village, the church is one of its most important buildings. Built during the 12th century, the church of Saint-Jean de Prayssas still has many traces of its original construction, although it was greatly damaged during the wars of religion. Thanks to its nave with large arcades, its high Romanesque bell tower of the XIXth century, its small chapels and its beautiful stones, this imposing building is registered in the inventory of the Historical Monuments since 1965. But it is not the only church in the village of Prayssas, also, during your walks, you can cross the path of the church of Arpens, of the church of Castillou in the middle of the fields, or of the church of Lesterne.

Although it seems to be a quiet town, it is nevertheless animated by several musical events, markets and fairs in the summer, as well as by a fresh truffle market in the winter, which is a great success with locals and visitors alike. A town with a truffle tradition, Prayssas is definitely a gourmet destination that is worth a visit for the finesse of its specialities. In all the good small addresses of the region, the clafoutis with Agen prunes are legion, as well as the aligot (yum !), the omelettes with truffles, the fouace aveyronnaise, the estofinade, the dishes based on foie gras, the tarts and jams with Garriguettes strawberries... Many delights which will undoubtedly satisfy the taste buds of the whole family.

In addition to its delicacy, Prayssas is prized for the beauty of its landscape. If in springtime it is the plum trees in bloom on the side of the road to Dominipech that amaze nature lovers, in fine weather, you can discover the village and its surroundings thanks to a vast network of signposted footpaths that criss-cross the ecclesiastical village as well as the Pays de Serres and the Lot-et-Garonne. Walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders will be able to go from shady paths to steep passages in the direction of Lusignan-Petit, the Grotte de Lastournelle (16 kilometres to the east) or the Grottes de Fontirou, the castle of Buzet-sur-Baïse (25 kilometres away), Port-Sainte-Marie, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, or even Agen for its historical capital and its canoeing base which will allow you to go for a ride on the Garonne. For wonderful memories!
