Need a vacation away from the crowd? If the words culture, beautiful heritage, green surroundings, sunshine and gourmet cuisine are the words that make you dream for exotic breaks, then head for Castelnau-Montratier, in the Lot.

Housed on the heights of a rocky spur overlooking the Quercy Blanc, the bastide of Castelnau-Montratier is located in the heart of the Occitanie region, on the border of the Tarn-et-Garonne. Typical of 13th century buildings, the town is organised around its large central square with arcades (Gambetta Square) from which narrow streets meander. Take the time to discover Castelnau-Montratier on foot, walking around its historical ramparts and strolling through its various districts. The medieval district in particular is one of the most interesting: rue Lacavalerie, rue Audegin and rue Aiguiller will allow you to discover the low residences, the beautiful doors and the stones steeped in history that make the city a destination with a rich heritage. Some sites and monuments are really worth a visit: the Saint-Martin church in particular, from the 19th century, but also the "château" rue du Capitaine Tailhade, the Millerette gate, the remains of the surrounding wall, the Saint-Mathurin gate, the Jacob house, the rue d'Amour and its half-timbered houses, the Boisse windmill, the rue des Orfèvres, the Portanelle gate, or the Hôtel de Ville and its belfry complete the list of places to see when you visit Castelnau-Montratier. Are you a fan of French cuisine? In Castelnau-Montratier, you are in the right place: sun-drenched fruits and vegetables can be enjoyed with all kinds of sauces, accompanying lamb from Quercy, cabécous, confit, honey, bread, saffron, duck breasts, black truffles, melons and foie gras drizzled with pastis or local wines, just like those from the Coteaux du Quercy.

As for activities, Castelnau-Montratier will satisfy all your desires. The hike will allow you to discover all the splendours of the panoramas of Quercy: the circuit of the plateaus and mills (14.4 kilometres), the circuit of the Moulin de Boisse (14.8 kilometres), and the circuit of the bastides in Quercy Blanc (30 kilometres) will prove to be perfect walking and cycling routes. The GR 65 is also particularly recommended for experienced hikers from Montlauzun to Lhospitalet, via Montcuq and its medieval bastide, Rouillac, Lascabanes and Cézac. On the border of Castelnau-Montratier, Sauveterre and its Golf des Roucous will delight greens enthusiasts thanks to its beautiful 9-hole course.

A few kilometres away, the beach of Lac de Molières and its leisure centre in the heart of a large 17-hectare estate will delight visitors in search of freshness. Swimming, pedal boat, canoe, table football, beach volleyball, fishing, mountain biking, or petanque will be on the program during your outings to the lake... The winning combo for a successful holiday under the sun! Walkers will be able to enjoy many itineraries around the lake, healthy trails and discovery loops for all levels of practice. Finally, further north, about ten minutes from Castelnau-Montratier, the Montcuq lake is the ideal place for family breaks: labelled "Pavillon Bleu", it has a beautiful beach, a refreshment bar, a water playground, and a vast lake where you can swim in complete peace and quiet.
