Inspiring as it may seem, Cahors is a city of Art and History as only France seems to have the secret. An old medieval fortified town comfortably located in the heart of the Lot, this time-honoured city is made up of beautiful red brick houses, but also of medieval alleys with high half-timbered houses. In Cahors, one thing is for sure: you will have to walk around to discover all the secrets of this historic town. At the bend of its many squares, after strolling in the shade of the plane trees of Boulevard Gambetta (known for its many cafés), take the time to discover the 24 Secret Gardens that dot the city. Hidden behind old buildings, hidden from view, these gardens, inspired by those that flourished in Cahors in the Middle Ages, can be discovered along a route dotted with acanthus leaves marked on the ground. The "Jardin d'Ivresse" allée des Soupirs, the Cordeliers enclosure on rue Wilson, the "Préau Lastié" on place Saint-Urcisse, the amazing "Jardin Mauresque" on rue du Petit Mot or the Horus de la Fée Mélusine... The discovery of Cahors then continues towards the Pont Valentré, one of the most emblematic places in the city: dating from the 14th century, this monument classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the "Paths to Santiago" poetically crosses the Lot River 172 metres long and 8 arches. If it is famous, it is above all for its splendid medieval architecture, recognizable by its three high square towers. Filled with legends, this cobbled pedestrian bridge is also called the "Devil's Bridge"... It is up to you to guess the origin of this nickname! To try to find the answer, you can cross it, visit it, and even observe it from the river during a boat trip. Another important monument of the city: the Saint-Etienne Cathedral. Built in the heart of the medieval village of Cahors, this imposing 12th century building is really worth a visit, as is its magnificent cloister, a peaceful place to walk where summer visitors like to come and find a little freshness on hot summer days. For a beautiful view of the city, we recommend that you put on your shoes towards Mont Saint-Cyr: accessible from the Louis Philippe bridge and the Cabessut bridge, this beautifully preserved natural area offers a wonderful view of Cahors and the Lot.
