Culture, tradition, history and nature: everything seems to be in place so that Lacave, in the Lot, is the perfect place for your holidays in the countryside.

Clinging to its rocky peak at the foot of the Causse de Gramat, overlooking the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park at the confluence of the Dordogne and Ouysse rivers, Lacave is rich in an absolutely magnificent natural heritage. Calm: this is what will leave its mark on you when you pack your bags in Lacave. A calm, you can see it, only disturbed by the song of birds and water, which flows along its steep slopes. The commune is rich in a strong heritage, authentic and well preserved, which you will have to discover with a lot of hiking, hiking or cycling. The Château de Belcastel overlooking the thick meanders of the Ouysse is certainly the most popular site in the commune. Built during the 10th century, it is one of the most beautiful medieval treasures of Lacave. A true emblem of the village, it overlooks the valley below, in a postcard setting, sometimes coloured red, green or yellow depending on the season. Another castle to see and not the least: that of La Treyne. Built on a cliff overlooking the Dordogne, it is poetically reflected in the calm waters of the Dordogne. Surrounded by a vast French-style park planted with numerous plant species, this 17th century building, known for its 14th century square tower, contains very beautiful collections of antique objects, such as Louis XIII style furniture and paintings. We strongly recommend that you visit it, both for the treasures it contains and for the incomparable view it offers from its terrace. The Saint-Georges de Meyraguet church is also worth a visit: don't stop at the apparent simplicity of its exterior. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its Romanesque door hides behind it a splendid sanctuary as well as very beautiful 12th century decorations, paintings and coats of arms. Its 250-year-old old bread oven, the kiosk of the Town Hall garden, or the fortified mill of Cougnagnet (in nearby Calès) are also superb sites that make up the history of Lacave. Our advice: take the GR6 trails and the "Chemin des écoliers", an 11-kilometre itinerary that will take you to discover the different reliefs and jewels of Lacave.

But what makes Lacave so special is its absolutely magnificent caves. Accessible by foot or by miniature train, these caves, discovered in 1902, are unique in their beauty. Its corridors, its chaos room, its organ room, its large Dome and its illuminated underground lakes will arouse the curiosity of young and old alike. The Salle des merveilles will be the highlight of your visit: you will discover more than 2000m² of galleries with strange shapes shaped by time, highlighted by a beautiful play of phosphorescent lights. Underground life lovers? Don't miss the Truffle Fountain! A paradise for divers and caving enthusiasts, this surprisingly small blue cave is in fact a gateway to a wide network of submerged galleries, a well-kept secret in the Dordogne Valley.

Fly over Lacave by plane? Family visit of the "Préhisto Dino Parc" or the Ornithological Park of the Rocher des Aigles? Fly fishing? Canoeing or kayaking on the Dordogne? Swimming or mountain biking? You will have understood it, the range of activities is wide here, and you will have during your stay all the leisure to enjoy the natural splendours of Lacave and its region at your convenience, according to your budget and your desires.

Finally, in terms of gastronomy, the town can boast two Michelin-starred restaurants on its land: the Pont de l'Ouysse and the Château de la Treyne, both of which will delight your taste buds with their delicious local dishes, such as lamb from Quercy and foie gras.
