Adjacent to the seaside resort of Créances, in the Manche department, the village of Lessay has all the features of these typically Normandy destinations dear to the hearts of holidaymakers in search of simplicity and authenticity.

It is on the west coast of the Cotentin, a few steps from the sea, that the commune of Lessay is located. Bordered by the waters of the River Ay, it seduces visitors with its undeniable charm, and thanks to its ideal location in the heart of Normandy, perfect for visiting some of its most beautiful sites. But before embarking on long excursions in the region, take the time to savour the splendour and tranquillity of this small village. If at first sight the architecture of Lessay seems to be the most common in the area, the town is nevertheless home to an absolutely marvellous abbey. Emblematic of the "Côte des Havres", the Sainte-Trinité de Lessay Abbey is a real gem of Romanesque architecture. Built as early as the 11th century, it is known worldwide for its unique architecture, made of high cross vaults, a monolithic altar and sublime stained-glass windows inspired by Irish manuscripts. Elegant and uncluttered, it is 30 metres high and will impress you with the beauty of its red organ, its pebble-covered baptistery, its gardens and its cloister, which you can discover during guided tours.

Between the countryside and the coast, the Normandy bocage will reveal its exceptional nature to you during hikes, whether on foot, on horseback, or by bicycle, according to your wishes. Lessay is classified Natura 2000 thanks to its harbour and its preserved moors, located only a few steps from the sea. The peat bog of Mathon and the river of L'Ay are bordered by walking trails, perfect for enjoying the rich biodiversity of the site and the Norman panoramas. For walks with your feet in the sand, head for the neighbouring communes of Créances and Saint-Germain-sur-Ay. Lined by large expanses of fine sand, they will reveal beaches that are perfect for bubbling in the sun. In addition to swimming, horseback riding on the seaside or just lazing around, you can enjoy a whole range of water activities according to your wishes and your level.

Finally, take advantage of your stay in Lessay to discover the most beautiful corners of Normandy. The fortified castle of Pirou (10 kilometres away), Sainte-Marie-du-Mont (37 kilometres), Cherbourg (55 kilometres), Saint-Lô (37 kilometres) or Coutances (20 kilometres) are to be added to the list of your visits. But you can also take the ferry from Granville (50 kilometres) to Jersey's Anglo-Norman neighbour, to get a taste of the traditions of this charming island.
