Wedged between the Gulf and the ocean, Locmariaquer is inviting people to come and discover its magnificent faces. Cultural, historical and exotic, Locmariaquer is a real breath of fresh air, which will satisfy travellers in search of escape and preserved nature.

In the south of Brittany, between the bay of Quiberon and the Gulf of Morbihan, Locmariaquer is located a dozen kilometres from Carnac in the Morbihan department. Watered by the bay of Quiberon and the Auray River, this traditional oyster farming community still lives today from the exploitation of oysters, a local tradition that dates back to the very end of the 19th century. Take the time to get lost in the labyrinth of alleys of its old village, to discover its old typical Breton houses, but also its many chapels, its church, its seasonal market on the edge of the Gulf of Morbihan and its port. Moistened by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, the port of Locmariaquer is the perfect place to stroll around and take the pulse of this city always in motion. Located just opposite the seaside resort of Port-Navalo, this marina is particularly popular with visitors during the period from April to September, who embark for an hour or a day for cruises to discover the magnificent landscapes of the Gulf of Morbihan or Quiberon located a few cables away.

History lovers? You've come to the right place! The flowered village of Locmariaquer is indeed known for its (oh how many) numerous dolmens, like its neighbour Carnac. These dolmens, which bear witness to the very ancient history of Locmariaquer, are majestically set towards the sky and are emblematic of the town, like the Great Menhir. With its 280 tons, this 21-metre high dolmen is undoubtedly the largest stele ever erected on Breton soil at that time. The burial mound of Er Grahet, the burial mound of Mané-Lud, the dolmen of Kercadoret, the Flat Stones as well as the enormous cairn of the megalithic site "La Table des Marchands" ("Le Grand Menhir Couché" 20 meters long for 350 tons) are also to be seen during your walks in Locmariaquer.

Hikers? Locmariaquer is for you. With many hiking trails (including the famous GR34 which criss-crosses Brittany), Locmariaquer is a destination that can be visited on foot or by bike according to your wishes. From the banks of the "Roc'h du" pond to the tip of Kerivaud at the edge of the Auray river, passing by the tip of Kerpenhir, Er Hourel and Erlong, you will discover all the most beautiful sea views that Locmariaquer has to offer.

Finally, how can you visit Locmariaquer without enjoying the joys of its coastline? You will find a total of 5 beaches in Locmariaquer on the ocean side, perfect for your family swimming outings as well as for your sports sessions if you enjoy water sports.
