Explore Morbihan
The only French department to carry a Breton name, the Morbihan, also known as the small sea", has a vast coastline of a great variety. Situated in southern Brittany, it is notably renowned for its magnificent Gulf to the islands And rocky peninsulas with sandy beaches.
Town of Art and History, Vannes is located in the heart of the gulf. A few kilometers to the northwest, then go to Lorient, famous modern port city. Its maritime history began in 1666 when the Compagnie des Indes moved to the port of Saint-Louis. In addition to becoming a hub of international trade, it also became a military port and developed very rapidly until the Second World War, during which it became the underwater base of the German occupation and was destroyed By the bombing of the Allies. Rebuilt at the end of the war, the eventful past of Lorient is found today through two sites impossible to circumvent. Organized every year in August, the Interceltic Festival of Lorient is the major cultural event of the Celtic lands. Do not neglect the Moulin Neuf inn which serves very good dishes and pizzas on the spot or to take away. Very practical when you don't want to cook. Not very expensive.
