Explore Besse et Saint Anastaise
Lodged in the privileged cocoon of the Sancy massif, in the heart of the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park, the village of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise is one of these resolutely authentic destinations, perfect for relaxing and exotic holidays at an altitude of 1050 metres. In addition to its typical character and its old medieval streets perfect for strolling, the village is only 10 minutes from the ski resort of Super-Besse, a true paradise for ski lovers, guaranteeing its visitors a multitude of fun and sporting activities in both winter and summer.
A medieval historical city remarkable for its architecture, heritage of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages, the village of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise bears witness to its rich past. With its narrow cobbled streets, shops, 12th and 16th century houses and belfry, this village built on a lava flow is a picturesque and friendly place to live. Take the time to stroll through its flowered fountains and small squares, discovering its smallest secrets. Rue de la Boucherie is one of the most curious streets in the town : with its black houses made of lava stones, it stands out in the local landscape. You will notably find there the beautiful house "de la Reine Margot", a residence of the XVth century recognizable with its Gothic door surmounted by an escutcheon. Once the gateway to the city, the Belfry is one of the most emblematic monuments of the town. It was built in the middle of the 15th century with the ramparts of the town and is topped by a wolf's head weather vane and restored many times. Not far from it are other monuments to add to your list of visits : the Saint-André church and its goldsmith's treasures, the castle of the Bailiff integrated into the ramparts, the House of the Consuls on the place of Doctor Alfred Pipet or the ramparts, formerly 6 meters high and flanked by 6 imposing towers. If they were the symbol of the wealth of Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise, after the 18th century, they were gradually destroyed to build houses (like the Manoir de Sainte-Marie) and barns; today you can only admire the Belfry, as well as the wide moat at the foot of the castle of Bailli.

Winter resort located between 1350 and 1850 meters, Super Besse has more than 40 kilometers of slopes exposed on the southern slope of Sancy, as well as 84 kilometers of ski slopes connected to the resort of Le Mont-Dore.
