Located 26 kilometres south-west of Clermont-Ferrand, Murol is a tourist resort renowned for its magnificent preserved landscapes, its culture, its heritage and its many activities. Dominated by its incredible 12th century castle, a true medieval fortress classified as a Historic Monument, Murol attracted many painters at the beginning of the 20th century who fell in love with Murol's magnificent snow-covered paintings in winter and created the "Murols School".
