In the National Nature Reserve of the Chaudefour Valley, right next to the ski resort of Super-Besse, the village of Picherande is a small village in the Puy-de-Dôme department. Watered by the Tarentaise river and two of its tributaries, the Taraffet stream and the Eau Verte stream, and delimited to the east by the Clamouze stream, this township perched between 993 and 1722 meters of altitude is undoubtedly a water town, with the famous Chauvet Lake also on its territory.

If the history of Picherande goes back to the time of the Celts, today the town has become a Nordic ski resort very much appreciated by lovers of cross-country skiing, dog sledding and snowshoeing, as well as a small paradise for outdoor activities. Its major asset? Its postcard scenery, unique, preserved, as beautiful in winter as in summer! What places would you recommend for beautiful, quiet or sporty walks, depending on your desires? The Chauvet Lake of course! Of volcanic origin, this lake perched at 1162 meters high in the Massif du Mont-Dore is a popular place to go for a walk; even if swimming, canoeing and fishing are forbidden, you will be able to hike and picnic there in complete peace! The Fontaine Salée valley is also worth a visit, as is the Nordic ski resort, which in summer becomes a huge open-air playground for walkers and mountain bikers! In winter, note that the cross-country skiing area of Picherande is linked to Super Besse by the Cil de la Geneste: perfect for (re)discovering downhill skiing!

But visiting Picherande is also an opportunity to discover the Auvergne on the plate. We hope you have a good taste for food, because here, diet is out of the question! On the menu? Saint-Nectaire cheese, cabbage stew, Truffade, beer, local charcuterie, gentian alcohol, fresh tome brioche, but also porcini mushrooms, cloves and sheep's feet that you can pick yourself in autumn, or even apple pomace on the sweet side, blueberry jam, fruit jellies, mountain honey... Enough to give you strength after so many hours of walking in the mountains!
