The town of Saint-Aignan is located in the heart of the Chateaux of the Loire Valley. Also called Saint-Aignan-sur-Cher, this town of Loir-et-Cher is a real concentrate of nature, culture, history and elegance. Starting with the Château de Saint-Aignan: this Renaissance-style castle located above the city is decorated with the famous scallop shell and the salamander of François I. It was built in place of an ancient fortress of the 9th century of which only the Hagard Tower remains today. If this private castle is not visited, it offers from its terraces a crazy panorama on the roofs of the city and the valley of Cher, and invites the visitor to discover its court of honor and its terrace and this, after having borrowed a staircase since the collegiate church. Built in the 11th century, this beauty classified as a historical monument is worth a visit for its apse, its sanctuary, its Romanesque bell tower, its 10th century paintings and its nave with sculpted capitals. Also, take the time to stroll in the heart of the old Saint-Aignan: you will discover charming buildings with a singular architecture, among which an admirable gothic house dating from the 14th century, the half-timbered houses, the Hôtel-Dieu, the charming Villa Rose, or the Prévôté which hosts many art exhibitions during the summer.
