20 kilometres from Castres, and at the entrance to the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural Park, Mazamet is a pearl for those who love green holidays. A paradise of nature and sporting activities between lakes and mountains, it is the perfect destination for lovers of dynamic and contemplative holidays.

Classified as a 3-flower town, Mazamet is located in the heart of the Montagne Noire, in the Tarn department, in the Occitanie region. Long known for the wool trade, the town is now essentially turned towards tourism, to the delight of visitors. Rich in a very old heritage, Mazamet today boasts a beautiful architectural ensemble, narrow streets studded with 19th century mansions set in the heart of large flowery parks, and elegant townhouses, witnesses of its industrial epic. For a cultural interlude, don't miss a stopover at the Museum of Catharism, or a visit to the temples, chapels and churches that have sprung up all over Mazamet over the centuries.

But what unconditionally attracts holidaymakers to Mazamet is above all its nature. With its rich natural heritage, Mazamet is a veritable Eden for those who love nature activities. What's on the agenda? Mountain biking, horse riding and cycling galore! Crossing the Arnette gorges, it offers magnificent views of the Montagne Noire! This 140 metre long Himalayan bridge, perched 70 metres high, links the commune of Mazamet to the medieval village of Hautpoul, which is also worth a visit. A hamlet attached to Mazamet, Hautpoul delights visitors with its picturesque pedestrian streets, the remains of its medieval walls, and those of its two castles.

But THE pearl of Mazamet, its protected nugget, is the Lac des Montagnès. Nestled in the heart of a peaceful and majestic green setting, this lake is a little paradise for relaxation and family sports activities. Perched at an altitude of 680 metres, it is surrounded by a 2.7-kilometre trail perfect for leisurely or sporty walking, and is ideal for water games, swimming and fishing. The park's adventure park, shiatsu workshops, restaurants, beaches, fitness trail, and picnic areas in the heart of nature make it a must-see during your stay in Mazamet.
