Heart of Provence Verte, the Var village of Carcès is located at an altitude of 130 meters, ideally situated between the beaches of the Mediterranean and the Provencal Alps. Between culture and nature, historical discoveries and sports sessions, Carcès has everything to please holidaymakers in search of adventure. Let's go!

Spiral around its large medieval castle, the village of Carcès is a real leap into history. Here, at the confluence of the Argens and Caramy rivers, everything smells good in Provence, and the special character of the village can be discovered during short walks hand in hand. You will thus discover all the medieval character of Carcès, and the many craftsmen's shops that have flourished in the heart of the village for years now. To see? The old Place Forte, the church of Sainte-Marguerite (18th century), the high Clock Tower, or the Fountain of the Four Seasons which lulls passing visitors with its lapping sound. But the star of Carcès is obviously its castle. Built in the 11th century in a Romanesque style, it stands overlooking the Argens and Caramy rivers. Rehabilitated in the 2000s, it now houses exhibitions as well as a theatre, and offers from its heights superb panoramas of the valleys below.

With its houses with glazed tile facades, trompe l'oeil facades and covered passageways, Carcès concentrates in a single point all the charm of the architecture of Provence. Around the Bramadou square, on the side of the Florentin Giraud street, or the Hoche street, the Salernes faience fish scale type facades (from the 18th century) are legion and will not fail to amaze young and old alike. A city of art, Carcès boasts magnificent painted walls throughout its streets, frescoes of Carçoise life in the past on the Jean Jaurès car park side, the façade of the Tourist Office, the courtyard of the Médiathèque, but also ornate windows, Renaissance houses and fortified doors. A town of water, Carcès has several washhouses such as the Saint-Clair washhouse and the Grand Lavoir du Paramal, as well as numerous fountains in addition to the magnificent Fountain of the 4 Seasons. The fountain of the Avenue Clémenceau, the fountain of the Liberty Tree, the fountain of the Medieval City, the fountain of the Saint-Charles Oil Mills and the fountain-washer of the Rue de l'Horloge, to name but a few, will give you a good idea of the small heritage of the town.

In addition to its undeniable historical side, Carcès is also a small nature paradise for outdoor activity lovers. Also, after hiking on the side of the valley of Rigodoune or the Abbey of Thoronet, direction the Falls of Caramy. Renowned for being among the most beautiful waterfalls in Provence, they bring freshness and tranquility to visitors and hikers who willingly stop there for a few moments to contemplate, photograph or meditate. After seeing the falls, head for the lake! Superb lake of more than 100 hectares, it boasts 8 kilometers of shoreline particularly appreciated by fishermen who will find carp, tench and roach in number. If hikers and mountain bikers are happy to go around it, swimming is forbidden but you can still enjoy a small picnic on its banks and laze in the sun. For swimming, you will have to go to Fréjus or Sainte-Maxime (50 minutes away): there, in the Mediterranean, in addition to some invigorating dives, you will have the opportunity to practice many water sports, from paddle to surfing, scuba diving, water skiing, wakeboarding, sailing... The icing on the cake, in short, of these holidays in the Var!

I recommend "Le Clos Des Vignes", a very good restaurant 7 km from Carcès. Otherwise around Carcès: great villages of Cotignac, Tourtour, Villecroze to see absolutely! Without forgetting the baths of Salernes where you have to go for a swim...

THE good place to go is the restaurant "Le Patriarche" in the Domaine de Sainte-Croix (less than 10 minutes by car).
