Leaning against the Plaine des Maures, facing Grimaud, the village of La Garde-Freinet combines charm and elegance with a certain brio. A rather chic destination, facing the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, it is the perfect place to put down your suitcases for a holiday under the sign of the "dolce vita".

On arriving in the village, after a few minutes of winding by car on the small picturesque roads that run through the massif, only one thing makes us want to put down our suitcases as quickly as possible, to set off to discover this village with its very special atmosphere. It is in the heart of the Massif des Maures that the village of La Garde-Freinet blossoms. Here, the cork oak and chestnut forests are legion, and one likes to take one's time. Typical of Provence, La Garde-Freinet boasts a town centre marked by its history, designed by magnificent stone houses built around an attractive and dynamic central square where many restaurants and other shady terraces have flourished over the years where you can sit and sip a little refreshment. Fortified since the 11th century, the village reveals itself in the bend of its beautiful alleys which conceal many secrets. Pass by the town hall square to see the town hall built in 1858, then continue your journey through the market square and its kiosk of 1872. The old wash-house, the Clock Tower, the Old Fountain, the Love Square, to finally arrive on the Planet Area. It is the starting point for many hikes, especially in the direction of La Croix and Fort Freinet. Fort Freinet is a medieval fortified dwelling perched on a rather steep hill overlooking the village of La Garde-Freinet. A listed site, it is worth a visit both for the remains of its period dwellings and for the incomparable panoramas it offers over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Vidauban plain. Back in town, the church of Saint-Clement is also worth a visit, as is the Monastery of Saint-Benoît.

While hikers will have a wide range of itineraries on hand here to discover the singular beauty of the Massif des Maures and the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the same goes for cyclists. Once on the bikes, head for the Nible circuit (20 kilometres), the Mourre circuit (11.5 kilometres), passing through the small hamlets of La Cour and the Val d'Aubert, the Miremer hills, the Argens valley and the Saint-Clement plain, not forgetting the GR51 and GR9 routes which will satisfy your curiosity. The old Roman Bridge, but also Notre-Dame-de-Miremer, the Circuit du Var du Luc near the village and the magnificent Monastery of Notre-Dame-de-Clémence-de-La-Verne will complete your holiday "to-do" in terms of sites to visit.

After all these discoveries, head for the sea and the beaches of the Mediterranean! And not least of all the beaches of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, known for its wonderful beaches and creeks where you can stroll under the sun. Boat trips from the port of Grimaud, swimming, sandcastle and sunbathing contests, wake-surfing, paragliding, scuba diving, parasailing, water skiing, wake-boarding, sea kayaking, stand up paddle, Polynesian pirogue, yoga on the water, wake-foil, surfing, sailing, catamaran... So many activities that will make this holiday at La Garde-Freinet unforgettable.
