Less than a quarter of an hour from the beaches of the Mediterranean, the village of Le Castellet is located in the Var department, on the border of the Bouches-du-Rhône. In the centre of the Bandol vineyard, very close to the beaches and the first foothills of the Sainte-Baume massif, Le Castellet is definitely a welcoming land for holidaymakers looking for green holidays. Perched at the top of its rocky promontory, bathed by the picturesque charm of Provence, Le Castellet reveals to its lucky visitors a village dotted with neat and elegant alleyways, shady squares decorated with very old yet so welcoming houses, and tastefully restored houses for ever more authenticity. A feudal village, Le Castellet welcomes its visitors through two fortified gates; after this welcome in due form, take the time to get lost in its sloping streets full of old shops, workshops, stalls, ice-cream vendors, galleries, leather goods makers, vendors of ceramics and other scented candles that smell of Provence. Here, colours and flowers are omnipresent and decorate the facades of the village houses in a dazzling mix. On the warm stone walls, wisteria, ivy, bougainvillea and other sheaves of flowers tint Le Castellet with red, orange, fuchsia, green and purple, an explosion of colours that gives the village a romantic, country feel. It is not for nothing that the village has been chosen on numerous occasions as a setting for films, such as Marcel Pagnol's "La femme du boulanger" (The Baker's Wife). The church of Saint-Sauveur-de-la-Transfiguration is worth seeing (1030), as is the magnificent 15th century castle recognizable by its imposing façade and its two large defensive towers, a splendid building that now houses the Town Hall. Pass by the Place de la Fontaine, the Place de l'Ormeau for its panorama on the "Bec de l'Aigle", without forgetting the "Trou de Madame" on the parapet walk for a unique view of the Sainte-Baume massif from the ramparts.

When it's time to sit down to dinner, the sweet scent of Provence cuisine escapes from the small restaurants of Le Castellet. On the menu, many delicacies cooked with olive oil, tomatoes, garlic, Provencal herbs, capon, honey from the Sainte-Anne honey factory, oil pump, Provencal stew, cade, artichoke à la barigoule, sardines, tapenade... Something to delight the taste buds of the whole family.

As far as activities are concerned, there is something for everyone here: while some will not give up the famous Circuit Paul Ricard and its legendary races, others will rather set their sights on the adventure and treetop adventure course "Au Royaume des Arbres" (In the Kingdom of Trees), perfect for exercising while enjoying nature. In the area, there are numerous walking trails and marked routes for mountain bikes! Our advice? Opt for a hike in La Roche Redonne, or for beautiful walks towards the beaches of Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer, Bandon and Sanary-sur-Mer! Swimming, lazing around, scuba diving, surfing, paddle and other water activities will complete your stay in the Var!
