In the heart of authentic Provence, Cadenet is located 50 kilometres from Avignon. A former basket-making Mecca in Provence (as its museum attests), this small village perched in the Luberon nestling between Lourmarin and Pertuis impresses as much as it fascinates. In no time at all, Cadenet's absolutely magnificent panoramas of the Sainte-Victoire, the Alpilles, the Luberon and the Durance are a real eye-catcher when you disembark at Cadenet. To discover all the splendour of the village and its views of Provence, head towards the Place du Tambour d'Arcole from where a myriad of narrow streets start. The rue Louis Blanc and its descending steps will lead you to the fountain known as "aux pois chiches" (chickpea fountain), close to which is one of the old defence towers that once protected the village. Go through the Avenue Gambetta to discover the former house of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (41-43), before finally discovering the Rue Félicien David which will lead you straight to the ancient ramparts that once surrounded the town, and which still offer incredible views of the Durance. You will finally arrive at the foot of the Château de Cadenet, the most beautiful building in the village and certainly the most popular. Along the Raspail street and the safre cliff known for its very old troglodyte dwellings, this splendid feudal castle is worth the visit as much for the beauty of its buildings as for the landscapes that it offers to its lucky visitors to contemplate the abundant nature of Provence, the Alpilles and the whole Luberon. Cultural space, place of exhibitions and performances, it is particularly appreciated in the summer period for its musical evenings and its animations at sunset. From wash houses to fountains and mills, from castles to ramparts, without forgetting the Saint-Etienne church and its white marble sarcophagus and the Notre-Dame des Anges chapel, all the unique beauty of this beautiful corner of Provence will be displayed before your eyes!
