Watered by the Vie river which crosses it from one side to the other, the town of Apremont is located in the Vendée department, in the Pays de la Loire region. About twenty kilometers from Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Bretignolles-sur-Mer, 30 kilometers from La Roche-sur-Yon, Les Sables-d'Olonne and Saint-Jean-de-Monts, Apremont is nestled in a relatively steep green setting. Apremont is an ancient stronghold which, since ancient times, has prospered thanks to its strategic location, which offers incredible panoramic views from its rocky promontory on both sides of the Vie river. The river Vie has divided the village into two districts, one of which boasts a magnificent heritage from the 11th and 16th centuries, while the second has been marked by the 17th and 18th centuries. Here, it is above all the beauty of the heritage that jumps out at you when you enter the heart of the town! Along its narrow streets, you will discover the Apremont of yesteryear, with its Gallo-Roman bridge, its historic dwellings, its church, and its inevitable castle. Standing majestically on its rocky spur, the Château d'Apremont dominates the Vie valley with its towers. Built in place of an ancient medieval fortress, it is undoubtedly the emblem of the town, and is the pride of its inhabitants. Dismantled stone by stone in 1733, this ancient castle has only the ramparts, a splendid vault and two beautiful towers, easily visible from all over the city. Our advice? Take the time to visit its chapel to discover the history of the castle, and opt for a guided tour in the summer to learn everything about this magnificent monument.

As if wrapped around the castle, the village of Apremont has many sites to discover. While walking in the heart of its city, you can not miss the church of Saint-Martin recognizable by its bell tower of 25 meters high, or the megalithic bridge of Tuderriere. But Apremont is also home to charming dwellings and manor houses, such as the 15th and 16th century Tuderrière manor house, or the remains of the 16th century Château de l'Audardière. Second tip: climb to the top of the water tower to discover a breathtaking view of Apremont and the Vendée bocage from its panoramic terrace!

And to take advantage of the good weather, head for the lake on the Vie!
