Surrounded by the large state-owned forest of the Pays de Monts, the seaside resort of La Barre-de-Monts is one of the favourite destinations for families on their holidays in the Vendée. Between dunes and marshes, its dynamism, tranquillity and unspoilt beaches are sure to captivate your heart.
Facing Noirmoutier Island from which it is separated by the Fromentine Strait, La Barre-de-Monts is a seaside resort close to Notre-Dame-de-Monts, Beauvoir-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-de-Monts. In the very north of the Vendée department, on the magnificent Côte de Lumière, La Barre-de-Monts offers a multitude of grandiose, unspoilt panoramas that are wide open to the ocean. A true paradise of nature, this splendid resort will first and foremost delight outdoor enthusiasts who can enjoy a whole range of green activities at their leisure. Hiking, whether it is sporty or contemplative, is undoubtedly the most popular activity. Whether you are on foot or by bike, on horseback or in a horse-drawn carriage, you can discover the different faces of the village thanks to a wide network of marked trails. In addition to routes through the forest, you will also find a large number of routes on the dunes side, by the sea and inland, towards the Pont de Noirmoutier, the Pointe de la Fosse, and the Fromentine salt marshes. The "oyster farmer's path" (4 kilometres) is to be done, as well as the one from the "Phare au Pey de la Blet" (6.5 kilometres), all of which are rather quiet and accessible to all and will allow you to glimpse magnificent panoramas between sea, dunes and forest.
The promenade along the large beach is also particularly popular with visitors. Running alongside superb villas with atypical architecture, this embankment is the ideal place for a romantic stroll at sunset, or for a little jog in the cool summer mornings. On sunny days, we can only advise you to embark from the port of Fromentine to the Ile d'Yeu, located 45 minutes by boat, or to opt for lazy sessions under the sun from the magnificent beaches of the seaside resort. Wild and quiet, mostly lined with pine trees and dunes, they are rarely visited, even in summer, guaranteeing visitors an almost Olympian calm. From the beach of La Bergère, the beach of the Grande Côte or the beach of the hamlet of Fromentine (which belongs to La Barre-de-Monts), you can play beach volleyball, bask in the sun, but also swim, sail, kite surf and paddle, sand yachting sessions, sea kayak hire for a power ride, but also catamaran, jet-skiing, surfing, water-skiing, bodyboarding, kite flying... Something for young and old alike to enjoy when you visit the seaside resort of La Barre-de-Monts!
