It is about 40 minutes from Noirmoutier, 30 kilometres from Saint-Jean-de-Monts and the most beautiful beaches of the Vendée that the small town of Saint-Christophe-du-Ligneron is located. Of very ancient origin, this ideally situated Vendée village has only kept a few vestiges of its past that you can discover by walking through its streets. In the inventory of the sites that you will have to visit, the Saint-Jean chapel near the source of the Ligneron and a very old section of wall, a remnant of what was once the medieval castle of La Chalonnière. The former 15th century fortified castle and its Protestant chapel, the Breton Calvary and the menhir of the Stone of Josephine will complete this visit. But that was without counting on the Puces Ligneronnaises: a huge flea market, which is held twice in the summer, these flea markets are an opportunity for antique dealers, antique dealers and china enthusiasts to get together to do a whole host of bargains, and share a good time together while tasting local products. The nearby town of Challans, for a start, is a must for your visit. A dynamic, commercial destination with an industrial tradition, it has several sites and monuments to visit, such as its commandery of Coudrie and its chapel of La Bloire. A short distance from the latter, the beaches of the Vendée are timeless and unmissable in the area. While the port and beaches of Le Sable d'Olonne are 45 kilometres from Saint-Christophe-du-Ligneron, those of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Saint-Jean-de-Monts are respectively 22 and 30 kilometres from the village. A star seaside resort on the Vendée coast, the lively town of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie is certainly one of the most beautiful of the entire Côte de Lumière. The first sardine port on the Atlantic coast, with its canning factories, its beaches protected by dunes and its numerous hiking and cycling routes, it will suit the whole family. Fishing, visits to art galleries and craftsmen, idleness on the 32 kilometres of coastline of the Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie area, swimming, water sports such as sea kayaking, paddle, sailing on the Boisvinet beach, and surfing, sand yachting, wave-skiing, long-shoring and kitesurfing on the Grande Plage will not fail to delight lovers of water sports.
